YOU CAN RIDE (with a country song)

Verse
YOU CAN RIDE with a country song

Get real high when you sing along

Some folks love it and say they don't

But they listen on their way home

Singing just like Nashville stars

Something's up in that sound filled car

Fingers dancin' ain't got no frown

Seat way back with the mirror down

Chorus
YOU CAN RIDE with a country song

An' you might as well sing along

It's about the road you're on

Or the one you've just been down

Talking 'bout a life you know

Maybe one you haven't found

YOU CAN RIDE with a country song

An' you might as well sing along

Verse
Grab a friend and you buckle up

Do it quick 'cause you gotta run

Lay some rubber but hit the road

Share some love an' eat Oreo's

Turn the stereo up loud

Keep it there 'till you're lost and found

Karaoke at a friendly bar

An' let it go 'cause it's who you are

Chorus
YOU CAN RIDE with a country song

An' you might as well sing along

It's about the road you're on

Or the one you've just been down

Talking 'bout a life you know

Maybe one you haven't found

YOU CAN RIDE with a country song

An' you might as well sing along

YOU CAN RIDE with a country song
An' you might as well sing along

Hi Robert,

First thing that struck me is that the first line is the same in the v1 and the chorus. I would change the 1st line in V1.

Best of luck with this. smile

Hi Robert,

A lyric that leaves little to tweak, if anything, and that invites and awaits music.

Nothing wrong with the 1st line being the same as the Chorus opener; in fact it could be considered an enhancement.

Chorus
YOU CAN RIDE with a country song

An' you might as well sing along

CAUSE It's about the road you're on ( CAUSE IT'LL BE ABOUT . . . )

Or the one you've just been down (GOOD COUPLET!)

Talking 'bout a life you know

Maybe one you haven't found (Solid!)

YOU CAN RIDE with a country song

And you might as well sing along

Hey Robert...

Nice write. Like the love and Oreo's line.
Some good visuals here.

I appreciate Dottie's comments as well as yours and want to know what you think of this attempt at a change, I think it it builds on the song. Terry, go for it bro, I'm not a musician and I'd love to hear it, no hurry of course and I like to add writers who contribute, thank Dottie!! Here goes.

YOU CAN RIDE (with a country song)

Verse
I can ride with a country song

Get real high when I sing along

Some folks love it and say they don't

Though they listen on their way home

Singing just like Nashville stars

Something's up in that sound filled car

Fingers dancin' ain't got no frown

Seat way back with the mirror down

Chorus
YOU CAN RIDE with a country song

An' you might as well sing along

It's about the road you're on

Or the one you've just been down

Talking 'bout a life you know

Maybe one you haven't found

YOU CAN RIDE with a country song

An' you might as well sing along

Verse
Grab a friend and you buckle up

Do it quick 'cause you gotta run

Lay some rubber but hit the road

Share some love an' eat Oreo's

Turn the radio up loud

Keep it there 'till you're lost and found

Grab a hold a the star you are

An' let it go 'cause it's who you are

Repeat chorus
YOU CAN RIDE with a country song

An' you might as well sing along

It's about the road you're on

Or the one you've just been down

Talking 'bout a life you know

Maybe one you haven't found

YOU CAN RIDE with a country song

An' you might as well sing along

YOU CAN RIDE with a country song

ROBERT--

MY TAKE (CAPS) IN BLUE: JMHO/USE OR LOSE--GREAT SONG

YOU CAN RIDE (with a country song)

Verse
YOU GET LOST IN a country song
RIDING high when you sing along
Some folks love it and say they don't
But they listen on their way home
Singing just like Nashville stars
Something's up in that sound filled car
Fingers dancin' ain't got no frown
Seat way back with the mirror down

Chorus
SINGIN’ ALONG with a country song
YOU’RE ON THE AIR ‘N NOT ALONE
It's about THIS road you're on
Or the one you've just been down
Talking 'bout a life you know
Maybe one you haven't found
YOU CAN RIDE with a country song
SO you might as well sing along

Verse
Grab a friend and you buckle up
Do it quick 'cause you gotta run
Lay some rubber but hit the road
Share some love LIKE GOOD Oreo's
JUST turn the stereo up loud
LIKE YOU’VE BEEN SWEPT AWAY
SINGIN’ IN SOME Karaoke bar
TURNED UP 'cause it's who you are

Chorus
SINGIN’ ALONG with a country song
YOU’RE ON THE AIR ‘N NOT ALONE
It's about THIS road you're on
Or the one you've just been down
Talking 'bout a life you know
Maybe one you haven't found
YOU CAN RIDE with a country song
SO you might as well sing along

YOU CAN RIDE with a country song

Good'n Bro Robert!

I'd axe "stereo" and edit-in "radio"..(Partly 'cuz ya DO want some Future Airplay on this'n'...& partly 'cuz Younguns don't CALL it a "Stereo" any more.) (The Karaoke's Just Fine/& it's a "Keeper!")

Good Luck with this/Sorry I play Zero Instruments..but Do hear a Melody here!

Best Wishes & a Big Guy-Hug,

Hi Robert,
You've got alot of great suggestions. Go with your gut!

I'll add to your confusion LOL! Sorry, I'm almost always a 1st person writer therefore suggester too. I think it gives a song more impact if you can, but that's me! I like to make it seem personal if I can. I'd loose the bar room kereoke and keep it about either driving or riding in that car to emphasize that great chorus/ hook!

I also think radio is more fitting than stereo in a country song, may just be me! I played around with v1 as an example. Keep or toss any or all. Good luck with this!

Verse
Country TUNES HAVE BEEN good to me

THAT MUSIC PLAYS AND SOON I"M SINGIN'

AN UPBEAT SONG OR SAD FIDDLE AND STEEL

MELODY WILL PLAY ABOUT THE WAY I'M FEELIN'

SOON I'M JACKED WHEN that sound fills the car

I KICK BACK like I'M THE NEXT Nashville star

RELAXED, MY WORRIES GONE, FEELIN' SO STOKED

I CAN'T REMEMBER HOW I DROVE HOME

Hey, I love you guys and gals, even Mackie, that tuning fork is crazy looking bro, no, no, it's gotta be you, anyway, I like the RADIO option and went back to the original opening, the rest of it I'm gonna hang with, thanks so much, it's really been worth it to me to try this JPF thing out!!

Okay, okay, you convinced me to drop the karaoke line and I like it a lot better now, hope you all agree with me on that, after all it did need a climax!! Thanks to reading Calvin's BAD SEED, man, I couldn't resist.

yeah! Hey robert i agree with michael--leave them in the car--there's a cople of points where i lose the rhythm of this but it probably works with the music you have going in your mind and that's where it counts--i'd like to hear this one--it gives me a good feeling of a hot texas summer evening--love that!
Good stuff!

Thanks for stoppin' by Tim, Karaoke is a natural for this one and besides, the car is still hot and waitin' right outside the door. It works with the rhyme scheme and the reason everyone notices the melodic anomaly is because the rhyme scheme changes in the chorus. "Who'd a thunk it" I guess if someone could convince me to change that one line they would have to have the magic line that I'm looking for and I will add them as a co. Turn your hats around while I'm rejuvenating after a big week on the road and a load of lead to the Windy, paper to the Bright Lights, totes to St louie, bottles to the Bright Lights, on to the Windy again and back here, " wanna take a ride ? "

2500 miles(give or take) all planned out. Very good.

I like the lyric Robert. You might ought to stick "I" in there somewhere to show why the singer is singing this, why it means something to him/her. Maybe the "sing along" lines.

Keep the shiny side up,
John

So many people have contributed so much to this song by simply suggesting a few changes that two changes made a big difference and I don't know how to say thank you enough, so thanks again and check back in, I did get sort of an offer from a musician I wont name yet to put a melody to it, might be too busy, we'll see!

YOU CAN RIDE (with a country song)

Verse
I can ride with a country song

Get real high when I sing along

Some folks love it and say they don't

Though they listen on their way home

Singing just like Nashville stars

Something's up in that sound filled car

Fingers dancin' ain't got no frown

Seat way back with the mirror down

Chorus
YOU CAN RIDE with a country song

An' you might as well sing along

It's about the road you're on

Or the one you've just been down

Talking 'bout a life you know

Maybe one you haven't found

YOU CAN RIDE with a country song

An' you might as well sing along

Verse
Grab a friend and you buckle up

Do it quick 'cause you gotta run

Lay some rubber but hit the road

Share some love an' eat Oreo's

Turn the radio up loud

Keep it there 'till you're lost and found

Put some Jones in an' hum a bar

Then let it go 'cause it's who you are

Repeat chorus
YOU CAN RIDE with a country song

An' you might as well sing along

It's about the road you're on

Or the one you've just been down

Talking 'bout a life you know

Maybe one you haven't found

YOU CAN RIDE with a country song

An' you might as well sing along

YOU CAN RIDE with a country song

An' you might as well sing along

This is another great lyric. Too bad that what is considered country on the radio these days is more like rock 'n roll than true country, and legends such as George Jones, Merle Haggard and Loretta Lynn wouldn't stand a chance on today's country radio. Even Reba has gooten way away from her country roots, IMO. Listed to one of her more recent CD's and there wasn't even one song on it that I would really consider country. That said--would love to connect with artists still doing the more traditional sound, even the unknowns. That asid--might as well reveal who the most famous trucker of all time was. Elvis Presley.

Peace,
Brian

Ahhhhh Brian listen to MAB for a few on the State of Country today smile LOL

Robert -- this is a nicely written lyric with a lot of great visuals and new, concrete images.

As a musician (though not country, sorry) the main thing I see here for going to music with it is that the verse and chorus lines are the same length. It will be harder work to create lift and variety in the melody to establish the shift between verse and chorus.

That said - it's still a nice write and I wish you well with it!

Wrong Brian, it was Jerry Reed, but I gotta give you four aces anyway, and Linda, hummmmmm, yup, I changed the rhyme pattern in the chorus just for you!
