To avoid misunderstandings, I want to make one thing clear: I am a fan of America (once I travelled from New York to Los Angeles in a rented car), I love the changing, beautiful landscapes, I like the American people, the friendly policeman in Atlanta who is willing to explain the way three times if you ask him and the smiling sales lady in a supermarket in Dallas… As a more or less scientifically educated person, myself, I also do appreciate all the scientific achievements by Americans without that our world of today would be a different, a much poorer one…
However, what I cannot get to like at all concerning America (no matter how much I try) is its dangerous and hypocritical foreign policy. The lyrics below are meant to make people a bit more aware of “the truth behind the truth” in an ironical way. Though they might be a source of controversial opinions, if I had made only one person to think a little bit more about it, I would have achieved what I have meant to…


We are “democratic”

Sometimes I think of James D. Watson, Martin Luther King and Willie Dixon
and some other great, bright minds till my thoughts do fade
away to El Salvador, the Indians, to Vietnam and Nixon,
for luck, there was Watergate…

I don`t believe in advertisements, in too bad news and too good intentions,
that they all are true, all those pictures that they “tape”,
I don`t believe in “just wars”, “scoundrel states”, nor in the Geneva conventions,
no, not after Abu Ghraib…

Peter, While it's true that the USA has been pretty much continually warring or in conflict with some nation or another since we declared our Independence in 1775 (Wikipedia lists more than 60 such wars or conflicts), it's not considered politically correct to point out the truth to people who have been propagandized into believing the United States is a peace-loving nation.

But I agree with you.

As an Englishman I find that most Americans are 'sane, normal' people who don't like a lot of things about their country or what their country does - it is exactly the same in England and I suspect everywhere else as well - but one of the fundamental differences is the definition of "patriot and patriotic", it seems like it is a cardinal sin in America to not be patriotic where-as most people in England would not consider themselves patriotic at all, I'm sure we love our country just as much as Americans love USA but we do not "love" our government or our system in the same way that Americans seem to "idolise" theirs and their willingness to believe the 'propaganda'.

I think that recently they (the American people) have had access to other people all over the world,through the internet, and I think a lot of them are becoming more aware of how the rest of the world see's America and they are beginning to question what their government and big business's are doing in their name.

I have to admit I am not happy with the way the English government has behaved both with USA and the English people. There is a wave of discontentment growing all through Europe and I think the same is happening in America, it is not the usual malcontents that are being vocal but those 'sane normal' people who are discovering that their lives are at the mercy of people whose motivations are greed and power and not the well-being of the people.
