Hey John,
I'm a bird lover (fried chicken lover actually), so I listened to the birded version. I'm so amazed at the quality of your songs. I love the dynamics, the instrunments, the panning, and the nice simple melodies here. All real cool.
Sounds like music for a cool fantasy video game.

I went for the one without the birds, not big on those type of effects unless used very sparingly. You compose very interesting, well thought out pieces. Are you doing the Taxi gig? It seems that you have mastered this art form pretty well.
The vocal patch seems very real!

Kevin Thank you Kevin! I did do the TAXI gig a few years back. Got a couple good contacts that got me the Dateline NBC and Bad Girls Club gig. Now I just flood the music libraries with an assortment of tracks (both exclusive and non-exclusive). The vocals are layered using East West Choirs, Logic African Choir, and Evolve opera singer sample. Best, John

Just did a new mix for this. After listening today, I noticed the female choir was hitting a different note than the African choir and boy's choir. It wasn't real noticeable but had to be changed.

Sounds impressive. I listened to both….liked them both….I imagine these would make a cool background for a variety of things so putting them in a library seems like the perfect place. Very nice!

Hey John,
Yep, works for me. Nice layering and starkness in parts. I like the birds. The white noise in parts is also very effective, reminds me of either crickets/cicadas or waterfalls. It's a tropical soundscape for sure, which ever way you hear it.

Wow, Brother Johnnie, the term "Masterpiece" comes to mind on this one. I had a hard time hearing it yesterday..since it'd break-up many a time during playing...but tonight at 3:20 AM I heard the Birds Version twice, flawlessly.
Closed my eyes..& there I was floating down the Amazon in a dugout canoe...water shimmering..sun peeking thru the overhanging vines & moss...bright orchids & bromeliads all over the place...then the Mists hit from the waterfall ahead.
You've well-captured the Joy of Visiting Such a Place..& it's Wildness & Unpredictability. "BRAVO)" Maestro!
I was inspired to Google Martin Denny...to learn how Birdcalle/etc. got introduced to musical scores..back-when. An interesting History! (& when as well-done as this, it's certainly an Added-Dimension to Music that makes it Soar!)

Thanks Ian! I'm very careful not to use too much compression on a final mix. Rather I choose to use it on separate tracks where needed. Also, often I find EQing is a better route to go about taming a monster down. I use the "gain" in the final mix to bring the level up to ground zero. I did use compression on "hits" and one deeper pad. Best, John

What I'm hearing is maybe a 1.3:1 compression at -40db... A light compression that encompasses everything. There's a LOT of space in this mix that isn't working for me completely. By doing this kind of compression it might bring the quieter elements to the forefront. Just had the my wife Sandra, my 25 year old son, and his girlfriend listen. Results: Son said the one with compression sounded bolder and had more depth. Sandra said the same thing, but about the one without compression. Son's girlfriend didn't notice any difference at all. I'll be very interested in hearing all comments. Best, John

I couldn't hear much of a difference with this mix so I messed around w/ your mp3 a bit... using the settings below I could hear a difference... mainly the reverb tails have more 'oomph' and like I thought it would, it gives it a bit more energy... at least to my ears.
