I wrote this lyric while on vacation this summer visiting family in upstate New York. My brother, Gary Chase, took the lyric home with him and wrote the music and is also singing the song. Kristi, it was the positive message, the music and the quality of the vocal that reminded me of CT. It's a good thing.

Hi Kirsti,
I think the lyric belongs somewhat to the musical genre, Disney was mentioned above, which I agree on. Roger Whittaker comes to mind, also with the singer.
I suggest pulling the drums and the dance synths, which were too busy for my ears. It's more of a pensive lyric as I read it. Try to go much more simple, perhaps a bit slower with a piano playing chords and then a pad on top. That would suit both the lyric and the singer as I hear it.

Nice write Kristi.
You brother really sells it. I wasn't sure about the upbeat music when it started but man did he sell it.
He has a really cool voice. very dramatic and energetic, which lends a theatrical feel to the piece.
You two did one heck of a job on this one.

I find that very interesting....the various ways to bring the emotion in a story to life. Very cool, Kristi I dig your brother's voice - in the chorus it had a Neil Diamond feel for me. The chorus is strong and memorable - and I love the message of the whole thing. My only nit - I would have liked to hear pauses in some of the places where the next line comes really fast. In particular, after "sons" and "else" in the chorus. Those are pretty dramatic places in the music and milking it a little wouldn't hurt Just one opinion. I really like it! Scott

A good sounding and catchy pop tune with a positive message. What's not to like, Kristi? I agree with Scott Campbell about the pauses. It kind of rushes into the next line after "daughters and sons." Seems a bit forced there but other than that it is an admirable effort on the part of both of you.

Nice, inspirational theme.
Is the music anything like what you envisioned it to be?
I read the lyric first, and wasn't really anticipating the quasi-showtune vibe. It works, but it wouldn't have been my first inclination.
Your chorus might be stronger if you ended it with "We leave a legacy" instead of starting it with that line. It is so much stronger than "By just being ourselves", that I think the song would be enhanced by having it in a more powerful position.

Hi Kurt, Thanks for your nice comments. You ask if the music is anything like what I envisioned it to be? Well, truth be told, I didn't really consider any music to this. My focus was on the lyric, which I started while on vacation, gave it to my brother, went home, worked a bit more on the words and sent those ideas along to him. I was amazed (but not surprised) at the creativity and inspiration he generated! So fun, actually!
