hey guys, first time posting. I need a song that displays my ability to growl and off the top of my head I can't think of one. I have been listening to jazz songs and female vocalists that I thought growled but I need help. I think I always considered growling to be a way for less talented singers to impress people, so I never added that to my repertoire, and I now I need to growl

You might find some good growls in Bonnie Raitt's repertoire, like "I Need a Real Man" or Joan Osborne's "Spider Web." ------------------ Marian Mastrorilli mastrose@aol.com http://www.projectmercury.net

I think I might be lambasted for this comment, but a shot of whiskey will make 'growling' come natural.

For anyone who routinely sings in smoky bars/coffee houses... Expect to have growling/husky vocals eventually.
As in all things your results may vary.

For the rock rasp from a female vocalist, you can't beat Janis.
I always find the rasp really goes stylistically with any blues.

Gotta agree that Janis Joplin's got some good growley songs. My favorite to sing is "Turtle Blues" because it's just so much fun. Good luck with the search!

Don't copy... use your own distinctive growl... it's there! It'll come when it's right. If you want something to growl to, try any of Big joe Turner's tunes... IF you like upbeat 50s R&B.
