I cannot speak for the Reality TV shows; but here is my opinion about American Idol and why it is a hot topic. First, it is a music oriented show, regardless of how you view it. This is a music oreinted site. So, the two have a bit in common. it is the highest rated show in the country and has been since its inception.
A lot of folks don't like it. But, obviously, quite a few more like than those who do not. When you have that huge of an audience appeal, it is going to generate interest and discussion. Those who do not like the show feel the excess attention is a foolish waste of time. Those who like the show find the discussions interesting. Thus, it simply boils down to what one's opinion of the show is.
I absolutely LOVE baseball. My father played in the minor leagues. I grew up with. I watch and read just about everything i can about it. I am not a big football fan. Ihave watched 3 Super Bowls in the past 12 years and almost never watch regular season and play-off games on TV. It simply does not interest me. therefore, it is a waste of my time to watch anything football related. The folks who are obsessed with football and do not like baseball feel just the opposite...baseball coverage is a waste.
But, I do not mind if those folks do not like baseball. I do not try to convince them that they are wrong or that I am right. I just accept that we have different interests and that's okay.
That takes me back to the American Idol discussion. Why can't those who enjoy just watch it and have their fun. And why can't those who do not like simply watch something else and don't worry about those who do like American Idol. If a person does like Americam Idol, join in the discussion. If not, move onto a different thread that is a topic of interest to that person.
Just my thoughts.
