“Chicken Man”

He rode ‘round town on bicycle
Heads turned when he went by
Don’t know where he came from.
Or where he goes at night

A man on a bike is no big deal
Put a hen on back it seems unreal

“Chicken man” “Chicken Man”
We called him “chicken man”
He built a perch on his bike
So the bird could hang on tight
“Chicken man” “Chicken Man”
We called him “chicken man”
His travellin’ feathered friend
Was a cute Rhode Island Red
“Chicken man” “Chicken Man”
We called him “chicken man”

I saw him in the Dairy Queen.
His hen’s outside alone
He ate just the ice cream
Then gave his friend the cone.

A man with a hen's a bit surreal
But the love he shows ev'rybody feels

“Chicken man” “Chicken Man”
We called him “chicken man”
He built a perch on his bike
So the bird could hang on tight
“Chicken man” “Chicken Man”
We called him “chicken man”
His travellin’ feathered friend
Was a cute Rhode Island Red
“Chicken man” “Chicken Man”
We called him “chicken man”

We saw him everyday
Then he disappeared
Maybe a little strange
In another gear

“Chicken man” “Chicken Man”
We called him “chicken man”
He built a perch on his bike
So the bird could hang on tight
“Chicken man” “Chicken Man”
We called him “chicken man”
His travellin’ feathered friend
Was a cute Rhode Island Red
“Chicken man” “Chicken Man”
We called him “chicken man”

Hi Neil:

My usual routine is to read the lyric first... then the song. Pretty darn original and I enjoyed my listen. When I was a kid with a newspaper route, I had a box on the back of my bike's luggage rack and my black cat (named "Satin") would ride along, braving unfriendly dogs and curious customers. Brought back some great memories, my friend.

Thanks for sharing. ----Dave

If you carried Allstate, you could've avoided being a victim of mayhem...like me.

hi Neil...I'm gonna give you a small piece of advice that I believe is sound. Try thinking of a strong title for your song, and then write something around that. A strong title is not just one that's a grabber, it's one that'll come with ideas for a first vs, a second and a bridge.

When you're doing whatever it is you do when you come up with ideas (I'm usually moonbeaming, head real, real gone) and you think of a title like "Chicken Man", ask yourself if there's something better in the cave in the air where ideas make their lair. I'll bet there is. Take a challenge. Force yourself not to write a lyric until it has a catchy title. If you get stuck for one, go back sixty years and rearrange an old classic.

Trust me, you'll write a better song. I know you'll take this advice in the benevolent spirit it's intended, we've known each other awhile. If you are offended, it's your own fault. You could've bought Allstate and avoided mayhem...

...like me. smile

It's all good...this is a real man with a real nick name in our town...AND a local Craft Brewery has a beer with that name and the person & chicken on the label.
Titles can bring rain or brighten the day, it's true
Thanks my friend.
BTW
I still like Footprints of Faith smile
