If there are to be no political or religious discussion make that part of the terms or a disclaimer, but the creative writing forum invites all content from what I can see. A political forum (enter at your own risk) would be the best. If you want to participate you can go there, if not don't. Plenty of other activity on the board if you wish not to discuss. I'm here for the music, but why should I mind if there is a section for political debate. I don't have to get involved. I'm all for free speech and the deletion of those posts was censorship IMHO. Unless clearly defined "no political or religious discussion allowed" which I have seen on sports forums and such. I was here years ago but took a hiatus because of health concerns so I've been reading a whole lot of archives to catch up. I've seen more strong language and blowups over song lyrics and MP3 than anything political but I have not read them all so my assumption may not be correct.
chesterb PS: last night while reading I stumbled upon Chris Young's 1st post where he introduces himself as a 16-year-old, thought that was pretty cool.
Come on ya'll... You know I'm right. Brian only changed the name of this thread to "politics board" because he's just as politically engaged as anyone else...
You know darn well that songwriters are a unique, competitive, and passionate breed. The silly arguments are never going to stop... just check all the old posts in "who's online" lol.
So, we may as well have a place to honestly and openly air our differences.
So, we may as well have a place to honestly and openly air our differences.
Tony, There's no great purpose served by "airing our differences." It's personal entertainment. For me and the way that I am wired, I like debating things for reasons that I don't fully understand...but the big pay off is getting to see what is in the minds of people who take positions that I can't find reason in. In these semi-anonymous forums, such people unload the content of their brains. It's a fascination and a learning experience.
However, I primarily come here because of a songwriting addiction. And I would gladly give up the debates for an atmosphere...that as Brian says, would not have caused many many talented people to leave.
(Different subject... If that were the case and I were him, I would have shut it down. Yet Brian participates in the arguments now and then. Even brings a little touch of Q to them.)
JPF has burned off people until the average age of a few remaining regs is about 68 and young people see nothing of interest in watching a small group of dinotards argue and a few zealots proselytize. And in the young minds, the dinotards do not even offer the faint illusion of actual access to the music industry.
It comes down to a real choice....do you want to see the site have any shot at all, at a build-back of songwriters across generations? Or do you just want to engage dysfuntional behavior because...it feels good to you...until Brian has to fold it up for lack of viability.
If you want to maintain the cat-box, so be it. I'll likely come leave a steamer now and then.
Before this thread morphs or dies, I thought it relevant to post the following video.
It is Elon Musk exposing a BBC reporter for the empty propagandist that he is, by challenging him to make a case, first by presenting one single instance of fact and then expounding on it. The guy could not. He was just spewing emotion based tribalistic generalities without any actual knowledge to back up what he was claiming.
It was disgusting.
Imho...that sums up today's world across all political spectrums.
The main issue is there are more hours in the day and days in the week to pass that posting one song can fill, which then gets buried In the pile.
It's natural to look for other ways to kill time in between your postings.
We need an interactive way to keep people in song mode. I could post a thousand articles on music and none of them will get any attention. But mention trump and it goes on for weeks.
Have to ask why you are on a music site. Frankly, I hope all enjoy themselves while here, I have successfully gone from everyday all day to once In a while. It's served me well I've written and started recording dozens of songs.
Edit Note: If you WANT a politics focused board here, please post below and let me know. If over 20 people want it, I will add it. (We used to require 100!)
I edited the title of this post. Below is JAPOV's original, unedited post. Please refrain from further new political posts until we determine if people want it, or just a handful do. I explain further on my response below. ‐---‐---------- Thanks for getting back to me Brian. I do understand and respect your position on blatant politically divisive threads, and am happy to hear that you aren't actually responsible for deleting them. JPFolks is your baby and you always want it presented in its best light. However... Light comes in many colors and JPFolks shouldn't be part of the problem.
In this age of "cancel culture", if you lower yourself to their level, then they win. You can't hide behind "feel good neutrality". It's a lie.
Take your thread about "impossible voting numbers" for example.
Look at all the idiots who actually try to dispute "simple math" just to press their own bull$hit political agenda. These morons satiate themselves with lies, and perpetuate the lies, knowing that the argument will never end as long as they keep lying.
That's how they create a "false necessity" to enforce moderation; Cancellation in the name of peace... IT'S A [naughty word removed]!NG LIE!
A lie can only be countered with truth. Truth can only be discerned if we are free to dispute lies. The day we can't call out deception for what it is, we're done. And, if that day ever comes, this site won't mean a damn thing anyway...
Try to take solace in the fact that you didn't create the problem. I don't believe you're a liar. But, you've only been given two choices, Brian... Maintain your integrity and the freedom of JPF, or accept defeat.
I've noticed that many Country and Inde artists are already taking a stand against "cancel culture" and the lying socialist agenda... Personally, I would be proud if JPF took that stand as well.
Hopefully, you see that I actually put time, thought, and consideration into the things that I write... not to mention good humor lol. It really is insulting when threads that I participate in just... disappear.
No, because politics really sucks. Music and art is all we need, in my opinion.
So, we may as well have a place to honestly and openly air our differences.
Tony, There's no great purpose served by "airing our differences."
Would you now care to re-consider this, Marty?
Adults don't need "moderation".
DON'T DELETE THREADS! Move them to the "Rant Arena" at the bottom of the site once they lose steam. That may not seem fair to the author of the thread, but the author can always start a new one.
1- It will become obvious that only A$$HOLES live in the Rant Arena. 2- The rest will learn not to argue with the A$$HOLES! 3- Threads obviously started just for the sake of argument will mostly be ignored, or started in the Rant Arena to begin with.
Most importantly, Moderators should NOT assume authority to decide what is or isn't appropriate! They should only watch, wait, and react AFTER THE FACT, and leave notice under the author's "ORIGINAL HEADER" that the thread has been moved.
Lastly, Rant Arena threads should not be excluded from the "What's Going On" list.
Brian, If you would do this, I wouldn't mind one bit if you moved my "Prophecy" thread... I'd wear it like a badge of honor. Also, if possible, I would appreciate my old threads that have been deleted to be brought back in the Rant Arena as well.
However... Fair Warning, I will NOT be polite to A$$HOLES in the Arena!
No Tony. I see no reason to revisit anything. It's a songwriter site. Any allusions to the 1st amendment or anything equivocal are silly to me. Good sites have strict moderation. Badly moderated sites dont and have all sorts of misguided rationalizations for why.
On a larger scale, the same thing describes Urban govts across the US.

You can go monologue here.
Marty, for Christ sake, what do you think a moderator is? It's a member of the forum, they are not paid, they have no training, majority of them go by what they agree with and what they don't, which is bullshit.
Do you want professional moderators? Pay them otherwise let people be who they are.
I've written and started recording dozens of songs.
Come on Fdem. If you're not done recording all those dozens of songs then please share the lyrics or the sheet music of a couple of them with us here. I have no idea how you write a song. If they are already written, as you say, you surely have something you can share with us. So far I've only heard a drum track. In my opinion, that's not really a song.
Fdem, ok, I acknowledge you don't have any songs. I think everybody here knows that already. I'm not trying to attack you. I'm just interested. If someone says he's got hundreds of songs ... other people get interested, some get envious. I was just interested and I politely asked you if you could share a song. I even said please.
It is all in the frame of reference. I see JAPOV Marty and myself contributing creatively here as well at the MP3 forum and rarely venture beyond these days. It's simply available time to commit
If it is a problem and perceived to stem from its position in the board hierarchy, rather than taking it behind the scenes I favour pushing it down the place and giving more prominence to what you want to look like.
Like FD I'd like this to be more about the music, and think it is a shame he does not post any. But I remain optimistic he may one day.
Like Marty and my favourite alien I see this is as much sport and entertainment for old farts who share a hobby that plays around in our imaginations and forms part of our day. Going back to tax returns myself soon after this.
Sometimes it shifts important long held beliefs as I now emphasize my total support for Marty's 2nd amendment rights because he convinced me he needs it to feel safe. Seeing it from his personal POV....which was not immediataly apparent ...in took as long as we have known eachother here so as long as there has been a political board at JPF. To me this is real value
In big picture terms...operating and preserving the place, a grant from some public arts foundation???? Songwriters Hall of Fame???Hook is 20 year old database of music, lyrics, and song related contributions by Just Plain Folks
H%## saving JAPOV's silly assed d'Artagnan grinned avatar alone has to worth...well something you really really need when you just gotta have it....
Get your point about and record low "user donations"..and such and need to rely on as much as you can. Hope you do
In terms of posts that disappeared.
1) It is a shared experience and fact they have 2) Some not all moderaters have spoken 3) Because it has become a point, I would ask the
"deletor" of the posts to explain themselves
John, more than the music,...the music is the biggest part, what you mean is the more than the recording.
Id love g/v demos, but it's gotten to point that nobody knows what's good in it. That's cause focus on sound has taken away.
If we both paid 1000 bucks on a demos, somebody song is still gonna be better.
These guys think all songs are the same, musically and lyrically

Dude go write another crap song, stop talking to me, go away
Fdem, if you've written several hundreds of songs, man then you are really talented and you have to be a top-notch lyricist. Hundreds of songs ... that's more than I have written (and I thought I had a lot). You surely can share at least one lyric with us. Come on, just one lyric.
Btw, I just wrote a new song today and posted it here in the MP3 section. When will you post your first song here?
I don't give a [naughty word removed] about your music
Fdem, I'm surprised... You're changing the topic. Come on, share just one lyric of those hundreds of songs that you've written. Will you share one if I promise I won't comment it?
Fdem, I'm not going away. I just want to hear one of the hundreds of songs that you wrote. One lyric, just one lyric would be enough. I promise I won't post any comments.
Tony, no way. Never would I do something like that. How could you ever imagine me doing something like that.
No, I'm just interested hearing one of those hundreds of songs that Fdem wrote. I acknowledge that he doesn't want to consider a majority of them. But he must have one demo that he can share with us. Don't you think so too? Most songs have lyrics. If he doesn't want to share the recordings he can at least post a lyric. I'm dying to see just one of those hundreds of lyrics that he wrote. Tony, I'm just asking. I even used the word "please", therefore I don't see any connections to the vision of me that you have. But I got your message. Yeah, I understand, you're right.

Take care - Robert
Tony is an instigator who has now appointed himself someone presumed to be righteous and moralizing, and sitting in judgement of other instigators. He flips back-and-forth on that now and then.
I suspect that he is putting on a show for some gossip-girls who are pm'ing back-and-forth with him.

Yeah', we all know your heart is in the right place

Don't take it seriously.
WOW... 0_o
That is SO telling, Marty...
Honestly, I rarely use the PM feature... Learned my lesson at SWIOI many years ago.
Hmmmm... in retrospect, I don't even know if that was truly a girl...

Rob,
The thing I am beginning to understand about Dom is that he is a really sensitive guy, and can't imagine if he posted something that people wouldn't make fun of him. Partially because of things he's said, and partially because, as he's admitted (I think), that overall they're not very good songs ("majority of them I no longer consider.").
I should know because I am as well, only my own sensitivity made me work at my art in order to avoid negativity. And still it comes! Can't please everyone...and at some point, when you've paid some dues, you care far less what anyone else thinks, cuz you know you did the work, put in the time, and that the work may not please everybody, but you can stand by it and withstand a few slings and arrows, and take criticism with an attitude of learning and growing from it.
But I think Dom's sensitivity has kept him from developing as a writer. It certainly has kept him from sharing!
And I imagine it can be so overwhelming that at times, he imagines slights that aren't even there, and is ready at the drop of a hat to pummel anyone who looks at him sideways, and it's rather pathetic that this seems to be his life.
"Hundreds of songs" does sound like a boast, though, and it's understandable that if someone says that, that we would want to hear one...
No doubt I'm "back in the crosshairs again" LOL...

These statements are meant for no one in particular but maybe for everyone....
When you respond with kindness instead of “in kind” you will always go down a different road.
If you forgive “in the moment” you will see the pain in others.
I often fail to do these things but when I do they are so true
Just some thoughts
Steve
Creators of music have a responsibility to their craft. When they have finished using all the notes and words, they must pass them down to the next generation with a simple request. “Use these to create new music.”...Steven McDonald
I have read many comments about you not posting lyrics or songs here, and you have your reason(s) for not doing so, and I respect your decision not to do so. If, you have several songs/lyrics completed or in progress, perhaps send them via PM to some others you feel comfortable with here to give you some thoughts on your work. There is no lack of outstanding songwriters here who would love to get you more involved in this site through your music

Ii see the pain in Marty, I also feel the pain, a pain in my ass..... Lollllllll
Yeah I agree vnorth, life is short, but we never recognize it until it's too late.
And it's always been that way, and probably always will be. Were unable to see into the future.[/quote]
Steve,
There you have NO-SONG-DOM's response to your reaching out with kindness and understanding. He doesn't have any songs to send you. All he possesses is the criticism of other people's songs.. Some people are just broke. In sane environments they are stopped and the bleeding stops. Not the case here.
Kindness, nor reason works with no-song-dom. In fact, all of this episode triggered from MZ effusively complimenting a song. MZ's effusive praise to another person just went-all-over no song dom. He had to set MZ and everyone else straight. And he spiraled down from there.
