A song about A.D.H.D

Folk-y style

Sticky Notes

Copyright 2026 OpenMikeMusic

V1

Hey, little man,

don’t say all that in your head.

But I do and I did,

“It’s just a deficit”

they said.

V2

“Now wait a minute,

the [naughty word removed] did you just say?”

Not a shot, like a spray,

no looking around,

no thinking twice, today.

Ch

And my tropes rain down like Sticky Notes,

I catch them on my tongue.

The voice of God, the wicked ones,

mixing water and blood.

No matter what you say to me

I can make it rain.

There’s an endless sea of Sticky Notes

in my brain.

V3

Methamphetamines,

underneath my tongue.

A kiss goodbye, a little high, a little numb,

Isnt school supposed to be fun?

V4

Almost there, I spit it out

so it don’t kick in,

“Can you be my friend?”

I’m on the ground, fists reign down.

Was it something I said?

Thoughts reign down like Sticky Notes,

I catch them on my tongue.

The choice is mine, mine alone

But I cant choose just one.

No matter what you say to me,

it’s prolly gonna rain

an endless sea of Sticky Notes,

in my brain.

Bridge

Saturday, Sunday

I’m free at last.

Running, playing

thinking fast.

The script, pre-written

I improvise,

playing the roles,

saying the lines,

alone with my tropes,

written on notes,

like cue cards

in my mind.

And they all fall down like Sticky Notes

I read them one by one.

Conversations in my head

dance around my tongue.

Every stimulation

sends a signal to my brain,

“Let it rain”….

Let it rain.

Just let it rain.

end

The sticky note line sure is a great visual!! I don't see the verse structure here like I'm used to , maybe you can post the music?

Thanks, Kay.....No, this is pretty much the first, rough cut but it does play well in my head. Of course given the context of the song, I know that's not so reassuring. lol..... I will be sure to post the song when its complete. I do appreciate the look.
Thank you, Kay!

I Agree. I thought "post it Notes" but it sounds too banal. "Sticky" better represents my dilemma...but yeah, "Post it" certainly flows better. It's early in the write. Its currently raining "Post it notes" so change gon' come!
Thanks

Hi Michael,

I don’t know much about ADHD, but the visual of sticky notes is informative.

I liked the second chorus more than the first. But maybe that was intentional.

The bridge and final chorus seem to lift the theme in a positive direction….nice.

Will you post music here when it’s complete?

Hey Mike, long time!

The "Progressive To Do List Monster" is dancing in my mind lol.

Are you certain about the diagnosis?
Someone with ADHD probably wouldn't remember why he wrote a note...

But, would still have an answer for everything/anything anyway wink

Thanks for the look and inquiry. The "sticky notes" resemble the flood of thoughts and images that tend to distract and rob us of any focus....Its always "raining".....every stimuli creates a flood of "notes"...some practical, others wildly off topic, a memory, a movie, light, sound...all fuel for a hyperactive mind. And many "ADHDers" act on these impulses faster than they should or respond verbally when they should just STFU! Its been the bane of my existence.

Well, if it's any consolation, I never made that connection about you grin

No, I will never know a mother's angst but I did raise 2 wonderful children in spite of any "affliction". 5 wonderful grandbabies. So, yeah, I do have a pretty good idea what its like to raise children. As a medical professional for 40 years, 10 in Psych, we all do not have ADHD. Perhaps you're undiagnosed as so many are,...if not, you have no idea, baby.

Ha Ha!

Ha Ha!

Please don't be offended, I didn't mean it that way way at all. I make lists all the time.. and then I forget where I put the damn list. Is there a disorder for everything?? LOL

AGain, I would have to hear the music and timing. Can you think of any other anaology other than post it notes? The definition of a sticky note is there's a stack of them and they're supposed to stay where you put them, and remove them when you want. Is there a connection I'm missing? Thoughts rain down like??>>>>>>>

snowflakes (they're all different and then they melt on your tongue like the drugs you take)?

Thoughts comes down like acid rain?

Thoughts come down like grains of sand? The fast they come the harder they land?

just musing here.

Wow Michael ..raining sticky notes....seperate, discrete ideas, models, thoughts, ...a restless inquisitive mind trying to organize its important memories

MY tropes rain down ON sticky notes .....????...people can get they are metaphorical elsewhere...

This is an angst filled look Michael....reference to medication from the inside view, the schoolyard bullying etc was a wrench
spacing issue (likely need to change the way you paste it...windows allows various options that include taking on the host page defaults that should duplicate your version....
I see there may be a lot of personal experience in this so thank you for that

If writing ever becomes work I think I'm going to have to stop
