Songwriting is widely considered a skill developed through consistent, intentional practice rather than solely an innate talent. While natural aptitude can help, dedicated practice—writing frequently, analyzing songs, and refining techniques—is paramount for creating high-quality music.

Good morning again.

There is definitely truth in that, but I think that congenital talent goes a long way in a lot of things. Larry (Dom), you could have had the best track coaches in the world since birth and worked out with them, on a track every day for twenty years, but you would never get to the Olympics. Nonetheless, hard work almost always pays off in some way.

#1 Larry aka Fdemetrio aka Dom
Larry, you cite a long list of well known songwriter performers. If any one of them visited this site and offered opinions, I would hang on their words. They've been there and done it, have Grammys to show for it, and seen things that they were sure would work, fail, and things that songs that they thought were middle-of-the-pack, takeoff. George Strait once said that when he put out an album, he had a hard time predicting which songs would be fan favorites.
The takeaway...you are nowhere on the lists of songwriters that you cite. Why is that relevant? Context.

#2 Larry and delusion (continued)
You are not in a recording studio trying to refine and take the rough edges off of a song that you created. You are here. You don't have cuts or grammys or anything else. When the basis for your songwriting critiques and opinions were called into question, you cited boxes of songs that you have written on paper and stuffed into shoe boxes over several years...as proof that you are an accomplished, knowledgeable and skilled songwriter.

Here is another, and to me, a more realistic way to view those boxes.
All of those boxes of random scribblings do not prove that you have advanced songwriting skills. They prove that you never got anything done or completed. Until AI came along and transformed your scribblings into songs....for you.

You are a scrub with delusions of grandeur.

#3 Context
As I said, you are not in the studio with actual artists working out your songs. You are here on this website talking about how great they are. You are the only one talking about how great that they are.

What is this website?
In reality, it is (or was) a social club. This is not a place where Taylor Swift comes to hone her craft. This has boiled down to a group of hobbyists who want to enjoy a pass time, and feel validated. This site is not the Dominick Dunne School of songwriting. You are a scrub with delusions and a poster boy for the Dunning-Krueger effect.

Taking your opinions seriously would be a mistake for anyone to do. There are all sorts of people out their in the world, ready to go into long explanations of how to do something or another, yet they don't really know. Taking their advice, or yours, is a wrong turn and likely harmful to their efforts.

This site did have a songwriter who had played in the game named Barnett. My understanding is that Moe's (JAPOV) constant badgering made him give the place up.

Mike Z was a tireless learner of production skills and a great asset to the site. He was willing to share all sorts of info that he cultivated. I can say with certainty that your badgering made him quit coming.

Kay-Lynn lives is Nashville, writes, attends song-swaps...and brought what she knows to the site. Moe wasn't having that, so he called her a Cu*t and told her to choke on a di*k...understandably she she started her own site.

What remains is Moe, Larry, Shemp, Rachel and breakfast with Marty.

Until tomorrow...maybe

xoxo
Yeah? And how many 13 year old, Taylor Swift were iut there, still are, who DID NOT put the work in, did not study craft, and their abilities thwarted.

And if TS did not work on her craft, we wouldn't know her

Mr oj was found innocent...

Maybe im not nowhere near these people. What does that mean?

If running track, i learn everything i can, manage to finish 5 seconds faster than I normally do, that is a win.

If you run the NYC marathon, and due to work, you FINISH, when I never did before, yet hundreds of people finish ahead of me.
Major win.

What your doing is saying unless somebody is exceptionally gifted, working on their craft will not help them improve.

And using a obvious insult to me, to try and prove that point.

It doesnt matter how successful you are, you can always improve.

You never do because you are a know it all bloviator, with very little knowledge to back it up.

And im a way better writer than you, and its not cause of unworldy skill.

Not many people here understand craft, the ones who do know this indisputable fact well

A great song writer would never say I'm better then the another songwriter , And you seem to say that on every site you've been banned from
You put lyrics in a box and push a button and tell us your going to the studio for that last 4 years and post vids of the who
Let me get this straight my wife has sunscreen on her face to look white and Saran Wrap on her feet cuz she has a headache

Guys, this is exactly why people stop posting songs here.
Someone shares a track, and instead of feedback, the thread turns into personal attacks and arguments. That doesn’t help anyone improve - it just drives people away.
What I find especially frustrating is that the same people who keep saying this site is dying are often the ones creating the kind of environment that makes others not want to post in the first place. That’s a contradiction worth thinking about. Oh, I forgot ... flies don't have a brain. They don't think.
This is supposed to be a place to share music, learn, and exchange ideas. You can disagree, but there’s a big difference between discussing songwriting and tearing people down.
If we want this place to survive, maybe we should get back to actually talking about the song. If not, just keep on doing what you're doing. Buzzin' loud but you still can't fly. Round and round, just wasting time: https://soundclick.com/song/15230650

Well, maybe I am wasting my time. Stop buzzin'. Behave and start helping others improve their talents. If everyone here stops insulting other songwriters, maybe, just maybe, this site will come to life again. This site isn't dead. It's just intoxicated. For a moment I thought it was just A Fly What Won't Die, but this thread shows that you guys thrive from each other.

Ben, I assume you're addicted. You can't avoid it, so stop buzzin', behave and start helping others improve their talents. It's not that hard. Don't let the flies make do things you regret later.

Good morning again, I see that there has been some activity in the last 24 hours.
As for this particular post...

You are not the voice of reason.
Here is a different view.

You are the voice of Rachel.
You and your toxic obsession with Trump, and undying need to impose your view of politics on groups of amateur songwriters has done plenty to make this site toxic, as a stand-alone.

Kid yourself, but dont expect a clear mind to buy in.

Good morning Larry. It's been 24 hours and you've put up a little bit of information that needs clarification.

In the above you proclaim yourself champion of the "every-man."

"We should not measure ourselves against others, but measure our success against improving upon ourselves. We should run our own races"

Those, to the best of my recollection are the words of a social-psychology professor that I had in 1972.

And I agree with them. And to the extent that they coincide with what you wrote, I agree with you.

But what you wrote, does not describe you.

Over a period of years, you have descended on the song post of almost every "every-man" songwriter at this site and told them what they needed to do to improve on their song, in accordance with the "Dominick Dunne School of Songwriting." And more often than not they would reply thanks for your input but I don't agree.

And then you would begin haranguing them about the shortcomings of their song and that would devolve into insults such as "talentless hack."

You demand strident critiques at the DDSS and strident compliance or the insults follow.
That is not allowing the every-man to "run his/her own race."
That is suffocating their efforts in accordance with your assumed paradigm.

This underscores the basic flaw of your paradigm.
It implies that you are knowledgeable enough and capable enough to hand people a verdict on where their songs stand as art.
I think not, Larry.
I think that it is more accurate to view you as a deluded scrub who thinks that a shoe box full of scribbles indicates skill and prowess, and an "understanding of craft."

It does not. It is just a shoe box full of scribbles.

Before I was banned at MUSE for publicly objecting to Rachel's Trump bash, a complete stranger said a song that I posted was "possibly" the best song that had ever been uploaded to the site.

I am completely aware that is only one person's opinion on a amateur-hobbyist songwriting site.
I am also completely aware that no-one has ever said or will ever say the same about a song of yours...except for you.

Well, that's all the time I have to help you today. I'll check back tomorrow at breakfast and see if there is anything further to respond to.

Well, that's all the time I have to help you today. I'll check back tomorrow at breakfast and see if there is anything further to respond to.

Yeah, but when I hear it.from great musicians and writers. Its not true, its only true if somebody says it to you.

There is no way in hell any of yiur songs are the best somg anybody has ever heard

There are Simon and Garfunkel songs that are not the best somgs one has ever heard

Stairway to Heaven is not the greatest song one has heard

Please organize your thoughts and swallow a dose of reality.

Whoever said that was saying to you because yiu are both on a forum. Maybe he likes it a little. Likely lostem to it agsin

Its this pea brain mentality that gives you the illusion yr opinions are right.

I would instantly recognize whoever said that, as a nice passerby..

OK Larry.
One more bit of clarity and that is all that I have time for today. So sorry.

It is not a fact...that the song that I posted on MUSE is the best song ever posted there or anywhere.
But it is a fact...that a complete stranger said that it "possibly" was. It is a fact that was his opinion.
It is fact...that no one has ever said that about any of your songs...other than you.

It is a very safe bet...that no one ever will.

It is my opinion...that you are a deluded, self-celebrating, scrub.

Gotta go. Will check back in 24.

Yes, I posted this in the correct forum...

https://soundclick.com/song/15225285

A blood moon shines bright
High time for a slaughter
Don't believe your eyes
Devil's walkin' on the water
Hey, hey, Devil's walkin' on the water...

Honey, honey... it's better to pretend
Money, money... sold yourself again
Funny, funny... laughing till the end
Can't turn back once the reaper comes a callin'...

Another day, the way, and treachery of men
Your heart knows what your soul has to say about sin

A blood moon shines bright
High time for a slaughter
Don't believe your eyes
Devil's walkin' on the water
Hey, hey, Devil's walkin' on the water...

Time lulls and and senses dull
Hand to mouth as life's bell tolls
We prodigies of apologies
The gales of winter chill wherever they blow...

Another day, the way, and treachery of men
Your heart knows what your soul has to say about sin

A blood moon shines bright
High time for a slaughter
Don't believe your eyes
Devil's walkin' on the water
Hey, hey, Devil's walkin' on the water...

Tony, your song deserves some feedback. I'll give you some and let the others play their usual disgusting games here.

This has a really strong, cohesive dark tone and immediately creates a vivid, almost mythic atmosphere - great job pulling the listener into that world. The hook “Devil’s walkin’ on the water” is especially memorable and feels like a solid anchor for the song. I also like the rhythmic phrasing in sections like “Honey, honey / Money, money,” which gives it a natural musicality. There’s a nice consistency in theme and mood throughout, which makes it feel intentional and focused. With just a bit of tightening and maybe one or two more distinctive images, this could become a really standout piece. Overall, it’s a compelling and well-crafted lyric with a clear identity. Your music is, as always, top-notch. I love your guitar work and your mix is excellent. Your vocals ... they are not my cup of tea, but one can clearly hear, it's you.
