Can't really explain what precipitated this lyric in mixed company but I guess you had to be there. LOL Been a very long couple of weeks of 12+ hr work days and I needed a writing break...and this is what floated by. Probably not very commercial in its current form so any thoughts or suggestions are most welcome! I just had to write SOMETHING!! I Need Some Attention 2006 Lyrics by Bobbie Gallup ASCAP You're not quite as independent As you pretend to be I know if I ignore you You'll soon come running back to me There's not a lot of things you need I can count them on one hand So I let you think you're in control And smile when you demand CHORUS: I need some attention And, I want it right away Gimme some affection Whose house is this anyway? I lie quietly at night Trying so hard not to move I really want a drink of water But I know exactly what you'll do If I wake you up I know you'll want to play And I'll end up half asleep at work Just like yesterday.... LIFT: You made it clear (spoken) CHORUS: Repeat Your favorite place to sleep Is right on top of me Or at least with some body part Draped across my knee But as I lie here thinking I realize suddenly That you and my husband Are alike apparently BRIDGE: But you know I love you both With all your quirks Our love still works You're both so demanding But I understand Why I love both my cat and my man LIFT: You both insist: CHORUS: I need some attention And, I want it right away Gimme some affection Whose house is this anyway? Did I forget to mention I need some attention? TAG: Now, now, meow, meow

Hey Bobbie!
I love the whole concept here! I've been in the same predicament. No suggestions yet, I need to read over it a couple more times.

Hi Bobbie,
I think this could have commercial appeal. I don't even have anything I can pick on, except to me, a few extra syllables here and there. It appeals especially to me because I have an orange tabby named Gigi who wakes me every night I am home with a four paw massage on my back. She does this to remind me that I am not home often and when I am she needs attention. Kinda like a wife. Oops, slipped there for a min. Anyway, I like this lyric, and hope to hear it to music someday. Good luck with it.

You really had me saying, "Oh. Not you going this path Bobbie" and then all of a sudden I remembered you are a cat person. Just before it was made clear. Very good timing Bobbie. But. With the dawning of enlightenment, and going futher, I have to wonder what that hubby is thinking of letting all this pussyfooting to go on? I see that factor as a problem in this otherwise very nice one. Maybe an ex husband. I know I would have been an ex had any cat tried to rule the roost like this one does, and the cook let it happen. Hi Charlann, I was talking with a friend of mine about the differences between men and women (what else? LOL) I said, why do I need another husband when I have a very demanding cat. Then I started saying all the ways they were alike. This could become a VERY long song, you know!! Thanks for checking it out. If you come up with any ideas, please drop by again and let me know! Hugs, Bobbie

Howdy John, I was reading something today about animal behavior and what purring means. Very interesting physical explanation. Fortunately, my cat Julia is not very heavy because she likes to sleep on top of me. If I am lying on my back, she will sleep on my stomach or chest and if I dare lie on my side, she will drape herself across my hip! LOL Lately I've been gone a lot more than normal so I think she just needs the reassurance of touch when I am home. Her brother, Ernie (yeah Ernest and Julia Gallup..LOL) loved to wind himself around my head right on my pillow like earmuffs! Ernie passed on to kitty heaven four years ago and I still miss him. For folks who love animals, they do become members of our family. We just love them no matter how weird they are. LOL Just like husbands! LOL Everyone likes their share of attention.. Thanks so much for checking this out. It needs some wrinkles ironed out for sure. Hugs, Bobbie

From the king of tight writin'...I'll take that as a real compliment!! Glad you enjoyed it. This'd never get past the gatekeepers here in Nashtown because they would assume after the verse/chorus that they knew where it was going and wouldn't "get it"...so...what do ya do with something with a real twist in it? Hmmmmm.

Good Evening, Bobbie! I really can't find much to nit here. Having had the opportunity to meet Julia, and spending a few days around her, I can easily visualize this. And yes, she certainly does have a way of letting you know when she wants attention. The way she hung onto the window screen, looking almost as though she were being crucified, just cracked me up! I really do not know how commercial this might be. The target audience would, of course, be cat/animal lovers, and that crosses all genres of music and social demographies. I think this would a perfect song for some sort of TV show that focuses on pets, cats in particular. But, until the real identitfy of the bed partner being a cat is revealed, the lyrics are a bit suggestive of something a little more risque, so that might not work, either, because those animal shows tend tohave as lot of children watching them. Okay...call the Grammar Police for this unacceptably long sentence! Although I like this one a lot, and kudos on the "suddenly'apparently" rhyming couplet, that was good one, I am not sure where the marketplace for this would be. with a little spit and polish, you just might have something going here. Best of luck with it! Alan PS: Helen says hello and sends her best, as well.

Bobbie, this really had me going for a long time...however, it was confusing to me when you started in saying "I need some attention" because it felt like the speaker in the song was needing some attention. It would seem like you should say YOU need some attention, etc. or at least set it up that the speaker isn't speaking. Very cool lyric, though, and I agree it could have commercial appeal. Maybe some more hints along the way that it's a cat to keep people from thinking how immoral you are! ha!

Hi Bobbie, My first thought...OMG...she's going THERE??? Then I got to the cat...this is absolutely adorable I tried to think of a way to introduce the idea of a cat in the first verse, but it just ended up going more "there" than it did before. I'll leave this one to you pro's. Great read...love it

Howdy Alan, Ms Julia sends her love! She can't quite figure things out at the moment, however. The joists under the floor in my bedroom gave way and the floor started to sag so this week, I had to move everything out of my bedroom while they cut out the floor and built a new one. Been sleeping upstairs...and she is really confused. LOL Yeah, Julia's 'crucifixion cat' pose is pretty funny IMO!! This is one lyric that I did not write with a market in mind. Sometimes you just have to let these things happen, ya know! With all the animal lovers out there, it "might" find a home...but as you saw...the set up sounds like this is going a different direction, so it may not ever find a home. Hiss!! LOL It was mostly a challenge to myself to see if I could "fool folks" into thinking one thing and then whomp 'em with something else. Seems like that worked at least. There may be a female artist who could pull off this sort of tongue in cheek number. Who knows? Gretchen Wilson certainly could..but I don't know if she likes cats or not. LOL It would certainly require someone with her chutzpah. Thanks for taking a look at this and sharing your thoughts. Please tell Ms Helen she is in my thoughts and prayers!! Hugs, Bobbie

Ahhhh, you of ALL people should have known where this was heading, Big G...LOL you DID write music for NASCAT, remember??? LOL Having co-existed in households with both husbands and cats at the same time, I can honestly say that at times things were most peaceful between all parties...particularly when the hubby was sleeping peacefully!! ROFL Dawg swore he was not a "cat person" when we got married...but he sure was an easy mark when the cats arrived and wound him around their every little whim. Who else would cook an entire pork butt once a week for Bubbacat just because it was his favorite food??? I could make it an exhusband...but I am not sure that would be quite as funny. I will sure think more on that issue, however!! Glad you enjoyed the twist and the timing in this one. I figured the bridge was the only place I could explain what was going on...before that would have been too soon IMO. Thanks for the drop in and suggestions!! I guess I should say I am sorry you thought I was taking this in a suggestive direction LOL but hey...I can't help where your mind goes!! LOL Heck, I've NEVER been able to figure out where your mind goes half the time anyway!! Bet your wife thinks the same thing at times. Hugs, Bobbie

Howdy Ms Betty, Thanks so much for checking this out. I am sorry you found it confusing. If you look at the line preceding each chorus, there is a definite lead in that indicates that someone other than the singer is saying the chorus: V1 And smile when you demand... CHORUS: I need some attention The other verses have a lift to show that it is not the singer. I may still need to rework those if that isn't clear. Thanks for pointing that out. I'm not sure I want folks to know prior to the bridge that this is a cat. LOL I much prefer to let their minds go wherever they choose to go with the set-up here. LOL This sort of reminds me of last fall when one of my dear buddies here, a cutiepatootie cop came by to sing me his latest song. The song was about this very special Christmas gift he had for me...and just about the time my face was turning bright red and hot...LOL the other shoe dropped and I found out that the gift he was talking about was...a new dishwasher. ROFL. He will NEVER let me forget that I was actually blushing!! Our minds are a dangerous thing!!! Moi??? Immoral??? LOL Notttt!! Can't tell about other folks minds, however! Thanks so much for the read and insights! Much appreciated! Hugs, Bobbie

Hi there Mel!! Didn't mean to shock folks..well, that's not totally true. I WAS trying to sneak this one past you until the bridge, so yeah, the trap was being rather carefully set to get you to think just what you did. LOL I didn't really want the clues to be too obvious that this was about a cat in the first two verses. I was guessing that folks would keep reading until they did get the twist tossed at 'em just because they couldn't believe I really WOULD do a song that went THERE! LOL My bad!! I am glad the cat twist got ya purring! I will gladly accept "adorable" any day. I might hafta tweak the tale of this one after all. Thanks so much for the kind comments on this. Hugs, Bobbie

Before we dismiss this commercially, remember there's....a guy on the boards that got a cut last year...with a dog song... Too bad we didn't all know about that ...as so many of us have dog songs. Bobbie very well may get a cut with this...should someone... do something similar with a CAT CD.... I love the quirk /works.but..I'm wondering how well they will sing.......as ending words..... hugs..and good luck with this B.G... kk

Bobbie,
Interesting turn around song. John posted one somewhat similar. We need to do a cat song CD, I think.
Good work. Might need some minor tweaks, but the storyline is sound. Good turn around there at the end, too.
Keep writing.

Howdy Ms Kaley-girl...
Yeah, you are right...before I go and chuck this one into the "snowball's chance" pile...I ought to wait to see if it ends up with music. Great music could make anything sing. LOL I had fun last night with June McHugh. Spent the evening at her office listening to some of the music that Ash Street is pitching at the moment!! Do you remember June from Pineyfest? She wants me to work with her on some grant stuff but we wound up listening to music...what else do folks do for entertainment in this town? LOL We are cooking up some great stuff for this summer!!
I dunno myself about the quirks/works...but I am willing to bet a great singer could make it happen. Who knows?? LOL Songs have been tossed out for far less than a couple of tough word to sing. Woe is me.

Howdy Skipper,
I'm not familiar with the song you are talking about from John...but I have at least 4-5 cat songs of my own already...and probably more waiting to be written. Let's see:
Big G did music for NASCAT Catherine and Her Cat Orange Tabby...Rachel Kerr did music for this one I Think I'll Keep The Cat Ernie's Revenge One Cat Volcano Dead Things In The Shower (How could I forget THIS beaut!! Moonless Joe and Bobbie collab)
I guess that makes eight already (seven others plus this one) though I bet if I go through my files I will find a few I have forgotten. LOL I also have a darn good start on a dog cd. The Horse cd is nearly finished. LOL
There is a guy in Ireland who has a website devoted to his cat tales songs. It is hilarious. Where would we be without our animal friends?? LOL
Thanks so much for the encouraging words!!

Thanks so much FF,
I am of the old school where it is much more fun for me to write with just a hint of suggestiveness rather than the direct hit that feels as though it has crossed over that line, that I just do not like crossing. How much better to let folks imaginations take the song wherever THEY choose to go rather than hit 'em with it. So glad you stayed around for the reality byte!!

Howdy Joanne,
I was talking with my landlady today who is a holistic health practitioner and she said that cats have a psychic connection with human health somehow. For the past few weeks I have been having trouble with my left knee to the point of having to take some potent painkillers, etc. Julia has appointed herself Chief Heating Pad. For some reason known only to her, she has decided that she HAS to sleep on my left knee. Not my right or on my stomach which are her usual spots...but directly draped across my left knee. Last night I was trying to get comfortable and was thrashing around. She got off my leg for a few moments...but only until I stopped moving and was quiet again. Then she promptly got back up on my left knee again. Who knows? It was obviously a very specific thing for her. I'd sure like to know what goes on in her mind sometimes. I think relentless is a perfect term for a cat. They do have an issue with control. LOL I've tried to imitate her vocalizations. She thinks (knows) I am nutz! LOL
Glad you enjoyed this. It was fun to write...and sometimes we just have to allow ourselves the freedom to write the fun stuff. Thanks for dropping by!

A FAN? WOW...I don't even perform and I've got a fan??? I am tickled!! Thank you soooo much!! You know it goes both ways, my friend! I don't usually write funny stuff...but sometimes even the most sedate among us have to let it fly. LOL (yeah rightttt!!) I am delighted that you enjoyed the twist in this.
