I took you wonderful folks advice and added some additional instrumentation on my southbound train song. Please let me know any further suggestions. I want to make it as good as I can Dan http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default.cfm?bandID=883990

Pretty cool instrumentation. Right now the song (to my ears) has mixing issues. It seems that the vocals and another instrument (slide?) are sharing the same sonic space (left/right position) or EQ zone. Therefore the vocals are sort of covered up at times. I would try and move things around until the vocals are better isolated. Some background vox would help, too.

Hello DanO,
Nice to meet you. I truly love this. The instrumentation is easy going and weaves in beautifully. It reminds me of the style of music I used to play with my family, especially an uncle with the slide style you use.
You said you want suggestions, so I thought I would tell you this one (or two) thoughts. I think it is great, and could be a soundtrack song, but for me, one thing could make it even better. I think it would be even better if you work some more on the mix and blending. Your vocal sounds very nice and I feel like you might should bring it up if you have it on a seperate track. Maybe the slide and fingerpicking down a tad if you can, but not if you can bring the vocal up just a little instead.
I am no pro, lol, so these are just my thoughts.
Very nice song,
Letha

Dan,
This is sounding better and better. I agree with Kevin, in that the mix needs a bit of work. Love that slide coming in there and the mandolin sounds good too. I like the train whistle too.

Thank you so much folks, My goodness I appreciate it so much. I will take your advice again and play around with the tracks and see if I can fix the mix. I am such a newbee with recording. I broke down and bought a onyx recorder, now to only figure the thing out better :-)

Hi Dan,
I'm not good at the technical stuff but the vocals do need to come forward a bit. Still a pretty cool song. I'm a sucker for train whistles.

Hi Dan. This is vastly improved from the previous version. The guitar work is great. Love the slide. This has a much better overall rhythm than previously.
I have 2 suggestions. I think the slide guitar would be more effective if you used less of it. Use is more as a color part than a rhythm part. But that's just personal preference.
2) there is something seriously wrong with your vocal sound. The vocal sounds like how the lo-fi versions sound on soundclick. The guitars all sound fine. It's just the vocal. It's like somehow you lo-fi'd your vocal. That's gotta be fixed IMO. Did you do this on purpose? If so, I'm not sure it works... having a funky vocal sound with normal sounding guitars.
Anyway, really good improvement.
Peace,
Ian

Hi DanO Got tell ya I love that verse melody. Wonderful emotion on this the instrumentation is very cool, both loose & tight, that's great.... The arrangement is good as well. Just enough of everything! Yep! only the sonics of the recording are hurting it, but even that isn't too bad with a song like this. It has an old record sound which kinda works ya know But there are some pops and booms and it has a cassette kind of distortion and sound. I loved the tune though, that melody stuck right to me. One listen and it's in my head. There are folks pitching songs for hits that don't have that Good work doing all this!!!

Neat job......Catchy tune and nice flow.... well balanced song....nice playing. I like the slide. It would not hurt to try and fix the vocal issues.... they are too far back in the mix and a tad out EQ wise. But hey you have been told that already. LOL

So nice! I think the arrangement is just right. Fix the mix and you're good to go. I completely agree with the poster who said this would be ideal on a movie soundtrack. Good toe-tapping, head-bobbing song!

Snappy lil ole tune dude, everything said about the mix which I agree with so won't rub it in further. Mixing/producing is an art form apart from the writing and will improve with every recording. Hang in there.
