This reads well and I can see you’ve been give some great suggestions already, so I’ll just say this is an upsetting, yet touching story to learn about, and you tell it with heart. And it flows with ease as you tell it.

The one thing I notice is “understood” is in past tense and I wonder how it, if at all, it would shed light on Raju and match the events, especially with his tears, if it was in present tense?
