You made a great point about Daniel Lanois. He is my favorite producer and a very good songwriter in his own right. He's produced some of what, in my opinion, are the best overall sounding albums I could name...from Peter Gabriel to U2 and Emmylou Harris' "Wrecking Ball", which is an incredible album from a production standpoint. He's been a significant influence on me, though not in the same sense as the artist/writers on my list.
