I forgot these folks:

* Rodgers and Hart/Rodgers and Hammerstein: Best of the early musical theater writers.

* Stephen Sondheim: The best, period.

* Steeleye Span: Turned me on to traditional folk from a skewed perspective in a BIG way.

* Harry Chapin: I still kick myself about this: I auditioned for Harry many, many years ago, and he wanted me for his backup band--he was just about to sign on to the record company--and I <smacks own forehead> turned it down. I had just been accepted into college and wanted to go. I still remember playing with him at his brother's film production office....

* Jerry Goldsmith: Great, interesting film composer. Rarely does the same thing twice. I wish I could say that.

* Billy Joel: Sure he can't keep a car on the road, but man can he write and sing songs.

* Hendrix, of course.

* Edgar Varese.
