Hi Matt before parting with hard cash for a usb mic try a standard mic in the mic socket as per my previous suggestion. I have not used a usb mic but reports are that these can be expensive and do not produce a very good sound quality. A pc guy who fixes my stuff said that these are for ambient speech and web casts not designed for serious recording quality.
