Lately, this is how I have been writing:
1) Get a general melody in mind. This melody will probably not have anything to do with the final melody but it gives me a framework for my mind.
2) theme and hook.
3) chorus
4) pre chorus
5)verses
6) bridge
7) give it to co-writer to write music
8) revise lyrics to match music as necessary.
