LOL. Somehow you missed that I totally acquesced to you tariffs point and was happy to wait and see and hear that it out

But I objected to your free use of TDS (your meaning) and ignore your own TDS (our meaning)

Then you totally conflate one election with another.

He totally is President now and it is why he deserves my Mr Trump address and why he is not still in legal trouble.

But January 6 mob was about his lost 2020 election before that...the one you had issues admitting to last time around.
That is why I chose the example as one to test your limits

You do not want to directly respond, no problem. But then you cannot use the term TDS as a casual throwaway against valid truth.

Brainwashed? By who?
I claim to not know these answers. I'm trying to find some reliable and straightforward facts.
I am asking people who are adverse to Trump to provide them.
Not hardly brainwashed.

Is that assessment, per Rachel Maddow.

I agree very much on one thing with you Rob.
If you or John or anyone else cannot answer a short and basic question that is at the core of this issue, but instead...can only generate a list of side issues...that looks like evasion, and you may as well give that up with me.

Now you all can return to Rachel Maddow et al and your brainwashing support group.

"ology" tacked on the end is a ruse.

I suggest that you just stick with "religion." It makes you sound a little bit less crazy and deluded.

For this site, you are the end times.
At large, you are just another element of confusion. wink

You are intentionally convoluting the subject, as usual, Marty...

Your assumption has always been that, because I freely profess my faith in Christ, I must be here to proselytize and save everyone's souls.

I assure you, the gift of "FAITH and SPIRIT" is not mine to give, Marty...

Tony,

I am being told by an Eschatologist, that I am convoluting a subject.

LOL, there are tears in my eyes right now. It's hard to stop laughing to type.

Ben,

I can explain what's going on here from my vantage.

The other night, I met with a surgeon who I am doing some plans for. I've done 2 of his offices and he has a couple more.
He was talking about how crazy it is to try and hire new staff. He said that there is nothing but crazy out there to choose from.
I asked for a case in point.

He said that he hired a woman to staff the front desk and answer the phone at one of his offices.
In the hiring process, he and the staff all met with her and all thought that she would be perfect.
On her FIRST DAY, she took an unannounced 2.5 HOUR LUNCH BREAK and came back to the office and sat down as if nothing.

That was absolutely fascinating to me and I asked the doc..."Did you ask her what was in her head that made her think that a 2.5 hour lunch break would be fine to you all?"

He said, no I just told the staff to send her on.

As for me, If I had been sitting there when she came back I would have been dying to ask her...."what is in your effin brain that made you think that was alright?"
But, if I really was there, I couldn't do that. She might go nutz and end up with cops on scene. I'm not going to risk a client relationship to hear her answer.

But I can do it here. It's the only place that I can. I can asked Tony...How the hell is it that you can think that crazy stuff that you say? Or Dom?
And they will answer and go on and on. Some days it is fascinating to hear what they say.

In the case of this tariff stuff, I would have no idea at all how apoplectic some people were over all this if not for John, Steve, and Rob.
Yesterday, I had lunch with a new client. He broached some of the tariff stuff, and I went dead on it. I say one thing that hits him wrong, no client.

But here at Just Plain Tony...it is the main event.

Ben, I hope that helps.

LOL Rob but no

Marty and I go back a long way and we have gone around the block on issues but he is worth engaging. Currently he just wants us to focus on tariffs and sees the rest as noise

I won't let him and I'm trying to hold him to account for his derisive labeling strategy. He is trying to avoid that conversation

Man Nov 2005 you were definitely here while JPF was about lyrics and music. Greydog & Bobbie were still alive and living at that old house above at Piney River
Lots of good lyricists engaging.

We both better understand Europe I think as my heritage is The Netherlands which is to Germany like Canada is next to the USA.
So I think we make sense together on this.

When I figured out Tony's Just Another POV moniker was a take on himself and what he was presenting hehad license to post what he wanted
Like his music and stuff have totally had fun conversations with him and I suspect he smokes pot.
WRT Christianity and its message ...presented by Tony or Everett who lead through their xenophobic lens vs Couch's humbler this is and what it reads and means I'd engage with Couch any day.
Think they mean well because they really believe that if someone does not believe their version it is hell for them. I understand faith is on a passionate belief spectrum and they are truly trying to save me
Nice of them and all but I see things more like Marty's agnostic we cannot say for certain one way or the other.
Still I prefer to believe humanity shares one ultimate God and state of being in this amazing gifted universe we can observe and ask questions in.
That makes room for all religions' spiritual quests
But I am risking moving into religion on Re: Politics HERE only!

Marty, back to politics, our Pierre Poiliever pre emptively released a response agenda that actually made sense but it was to me another I will say anything to get elected.
Almost 4pm

I'm not trying to avoid the conversation. I'm trying to avoid a thousand rabbit holes and stay on point.
If Trump installs this and maintains it for a period of even weeks...it is going to become very complex and it is going to be hard to distinguish fact from noise, and Propaganda will be coming from all directions.

All media is now niche and makes money by delivering red meat to some essentially cultish group that has a desperate psychological need to believe a particular narrative.

Therefore a thinking person's Question #1 examines the core issue(s) and then builds a foundational framework on that for an understanding as the details mount.
Once established, then as the insanity starts rolling in and every barker has a narrative to sell, then we will have some sort of framework to stack details on.
At that point, we can talk about fish hatcheries and chicken farms and Aunt Millie's apple pie export business. Until now, their place and effect in a framework that doesn't exist yet is supposition.

My prediction is that it is going to be a muddy mess.
Could it push an economy that has been festering problems for 2+ years over a cliff? Real possibility.

But it starts with a very straightforward and honest question that you continue to evade.
How can you fix a problem that you wont even squarely face John? wink

Fair dinkum. Then no slinging TDS around.

And you set up a scary scenario of disinformation dominating the conversation

Not sure what problem I am not squarely facing, but Canada and the rest of the world are not to blame for your trade imbalance.
You can claim that is so and erect countertariffs and tariffs on goods and services you choose to try and bring economic activity back to the USA.

Products with substitutes easily available to varying degrees will suffer if tariffed
Products not easily substituted will pass on most if not all of the tariff
In between there will be sawoffs between parties as to who bears the final cost.
Remember, in the end, price has nothing to do with cost.
It is set at a level the provider believes the customer will buy at.
Tariffs are added costs but how much of it to pass on is another question

Will this all result in a The Big Drump?

That over the cliff scenario with the TDS smelling name is a definite possibility.
Cutting government salaries and payments removes money from the economy and its multiplier effect and ultimate taxation again
Gotta think waste exists in such a large budget and is good to cut, but there are problems where DOGE hits the road as the proverbial rubber.interface
Their algorithm driven chainsaw cut wide swaths ...so dunno
That and people's economic fears.....future uncertainties ...grifters at work...

25% on all cars coming in to the USA

I dunno John. Your apparent obsession with the TDS label may indicate the underlying disease. I'll try to refrain.

With regard to increased downward pressure on a sagging economy;
At the moment, car and housing are largely locked up because people cannot afford the trucks and houses that are produced and the car mfg and homebuilders cannot get the prices down because of what they have in it. Nissan and Stellantis are particularly problematic. Every time FORD sells a Mach E, they take a bath.
"In the end" the liquidation of some of these things may be bloody to live through. Other than additional downward pressure, the main problem there is not added tariffs, but bad strategic decisions.

During covid there was also sorts of M2 pumped into the system, and Stellantis, for instance, built a business model around 85k+ trucks, easy money and easy credit. That money and those buyers and that credit scheme are gone now and repos are climbing. Nobody is around to buy all the 85k+ Trucks, even if all the tariffs in the world stopped a month ago. 25% Tariffs on foreign cars MAY help our domestics.

As for the govt payrolls and DOGE, I designed and did some construction on a microbrewery last year. Because I was there so much I got drafted into a regular's group that contained Oil company employees. They bragged about the work that they did not do at home. One guy had a device that clicked his keyboard now and then, until his company defeated it with software. I promise you these govt employees largely werent getting sh+t done. Methodically interviewing them is just gonna be BS and drag everything out until the effort is abandoned AS HAS ALWAYS BEEN THE CASE. So, Trump cut the jobs before they can dig in. Carrying that much dead weight is never a good idea.

As for Musk, he raised a huge and bizarre profile betting money heavily on the Wisconsin judge. So I think that the loss cost him the DOGE seat. Dont know what happens to all that now.

As for 25% on cars coming into the US, I'm fine with that. Parts are exempt until May 03. May have to move up my truck purchase.

It's very early in all this John.

With regard to Canada,
Blaming the the American tariff placed on Canadian steel and aluminum... on fentanyl doesnt make sense to me at a glance.
US Steel tariffs make sense for National security reasons but the sudden-ness of it is difficult to understand, given that Steel was fairly close to reciprocal when Trump placed the tariffs. That seems to be the opening volley in all of this.

Yet a 63 billion dollar deficit remains to be looked at.
I looked at a list of tariffs on American goods published by the Canadian govt and it was 3 miles long.
Per the WH, about 20% of the US economy is export dependent. About 67% of the Canadian economy is export dependent and 70+% of that goes to the US.
Bargaining position matters to Trump.

This situation is complex.
I don't know what is fair, because there are two many things to try to comprehend and they are evolving.
But people such as me think that it is worth a look.

For you, the bogeyman is Donald Trump and his tariffs.
For the US, every major producer in the world is a trade war threat, so we have a lot more to think about than just the frozen land. wink

Almost 4pm

Hey John,
yes, I’ve been here since a while and I’ve co-written and recorded tons of songs with talented people from all over the world that I met at the various songwriter forums. And I’ve even met some of them in person. I’m here to learn from other songwriters, producers and musicians and share my talents and capabilities. I know Tony for quite some time. And Couch is a nice guy. Robert and I have been working together lately and I’ve learned a lot from our joint projects. Marty is a talented guy but he sometimes gives people nasty names, like Trump does. I kind of get an allergy when people treat me like that. That’s not what I’d call friendly behavior. I haven’t figured Fdem out yet. I love Elvis’ honesty and sense of humor.

When I’m in Germany, I live about 10 minutes away from the Dutch border, near Venlo. We have open borders there and the Germans have very good relationships with neighboring countries. Yes, you and I definitely make sense together and I'm totally with you regarding January 6. I watched the whole thing live on TV. Trump was almost successful on that day. I can’t believe Americans elected him once again after what happened back then. I guess some Americans forget quickly.

We’ll see where this tariff junk takes us. I’m afraid it could end in a world-wide recession that can’t be fixed quickly. That would be terrible and according to Navarro, if the tariffs don’t work it will be Biden’s fault.

All the best - Robert

And then Rob,

Sometimes people don't like my way of thinking, and then their frustration overcomes them, and they come at me with character attacks such as I'm someone who won't honor allegiances and brotherhood etc...
all because I don't want to see Americans fighting their wars for them.

And yeah... "I kind of get an allergy when people treat me like that."

Lol that's good right there. That's what YOU do, after a few rounds if they don't agree you get combative and insulttive, try to show them where they went wrong or dismiss and remove yourself

It's not your way of thinking at all, everybody's entitled to their own.

So Canada is exempt from the 10% general tariff, the 25% tariff car tariff is on hold while the foreign component situation is worked out but steel and aluminum and certain other 25% tariffs imposed

Now to our election and who will represent our interests at the bargaining table?

"I will say anything to get elected" Poilievre vs Mark Carney who has the creds to lead Canada at this time and who has an experienced negotiating team on his side

Then a renewed trade agreement between US, Canada and Mexico. Perhaps security too. Cartels are a three country problem.

Rob we had a Rotary exchange student from Krefeld which I expect ypou would know. Schwalmtal too is in that area
Did some business with a company there who wrote software.
He took me to a client for whom he had installed statistical process control software and had written another product that was an information manager.
I was interested in creating various templates using it
But the point of interest is that the company was called Masterfoods and they among other lines manufactured the European versions of US chocolat brands
Hence the SPC software used in QC selection and administration on their production lines where they "batch ran" various food products
They urged me to try the chocolate to point out how superior the European versions were compared to their American and Canadian versions
Europeans are used to quality Belgian and Swiss and German and such and yup, the M&Ms and such that they gave me to take along were definitely good

John,
Yes, I heard Canada and Mexico are exempted from the car tariffs. So, nothing to really worry about regarding cars. It's just a PR tactic from Trump. 10% on all foreign goods, except cars from Canada and Mexico. To me that sounds like a tax increase. Why the exceptions? 56% on China! OMG! America needs to import bananas and coffee. They are now 10% more expensive. I'm a coffee fan. I have my suitcase full of coffee every time I travel from Europe to the US.

John, Krefeld is just 15 minutes away from where I have an apartment. Every country has things they are good at. Swiss chocolate is the best. Belgium, Dutch and German chocolate is not bad either. But Europeans don't like the combination of chocolate and peanut butter. I love peanut butter. That's where the Americans surely have an advantage. American peanut butter is surely going to be tariffed by the EU. When I travel to Europe I have my suitcase full of Reeses Peanut Butter cups.

Lol mental illness is anyone who disagrees with you. We were doing fine till you told me to butt out. I was on YOUR side.

Now? I don't care I don't have a side. Team Rob?

But you kinda started with me. I'm not inclined to be on anyone's side I take things in personal one by one basis.

Do you want something to cry about.
Stock market this early in the evening could be a head fake.
If it does correct, its overdo.

Wow, Republican Mike Pence just posted this:
The Trump Tariff Tax is the largest peacetime tax hike in U.S. history. These tariffs are nearly 10 times the size of those imposed during the Trump-Pence administration and will cost American families over $3,500 per year!

Today is National Sales Tax day! Let's celebrate! Yeah!!!

Being media in the internet age of free news has gotten hard.
To make money all media has become niche and must cater to some segment of the population that want their biases validated.
If an outlet doesn't offer up "red meat" to a loyal core, they don't survive.

The core will move on to someone who will.
If you don't feed your dogs, they'll take up with the nice old lady down the street.

They all seek to unsettle you and then offer you a fix and some relief.
In the case of FOX and Glen Beck, they give you all the reasons that the world will be destroyed and then sell you prepper meals and gold.

Everything is a distortion. The art is what they leave out.

I have had MSNBC on all afternoon. They talked about MUSK and Wisconsin throughout. Never heard them mention the Florida elections once.
I had my screen split with MSNBC on one side and NEWS NATION on the other. NN was Trump giving a speech so you got to hear his words. MSNBC split their screen showing Trump talking at a podium, but muted...while a parade of propagandists slammed him.

MSNBC is the worst propaganda station on cable but by far the most fun to watch.

Rob
Everything has something to do with the media. In 2025 the media is all the time and everywhere.
Stocks blow up on memes.

But your comment is hard to understand, what are you even talking about?
Dow is off 800 points in a 42.6k market. That aint crashing.
If it is down 8000 by the end of tomorrow, that will be crashing.

But before you go tinkle in your pants, wait and see.

This is my personal depository for things that I might want to look at twice.

This morning, at least there are some sorts of facts to look at,
https://finance.yahoo.com/news/here...y-trump-on-liberation-day-231329935.html

This WSJ video looks factual

This is cable TV. So it's OPINION, but it is the closest thing in the media to an honest debate between reasonably knowledgeable media people with opposing views. News Nation, Chris Cuomo's show and he debates Bill O'reilly.

SPECIAL NOTE: If you cant stand to watch something like this and are emotionally unequipped to withstand hearing something like this coming from people who have been labelled as "untouchable" by every media that you personally listen to, then you are living in an echo chamber/bubble and much of what you think you believe is distortion. Not maybe.

In the German news they released a list of countries with the new US tariffs. Interesting that Russia and North Korea were not on the list. Instead, the Heard Island and McDonald Islands were on the list. Those places are uninhabited. Only penguins live there. Make America great again by taxing penguins! I still don't understand it.

Rob,
You continually focus on every detail that you can find that makes your designated enemies look like fools. SOP for Maddow "red meat" propaganda.
If you click on the Yahoo news link in my last post, there are 10 pages of countries that have been addressed.
I suggest that you concentrate on some of those others rather than trying to amplify some obscure islands into a concern.

I suggest Germany and German cars in the US market. That looks like something with consequences and wild cards in it.
The EU also.
And China fills up Walmarts and Costcos. IMO...China trade war retaliation is the biggest threat to US stability. We have absorbed their cheap goods and cheap prices like heroin addicts for decades. They pervade our lives.

When I was younger I paid $40-$80 for button down long-sleeve shirts. Now that I am old, my wife buys my shirts at COSTCO for $15-$20. And those look fine and hold up reasonably well. If they disappeared from Costco? I dunno. When I used to build spec houses, I can't remember a box containing a light fixture that did not say "made in China."

Those countries are worthy of concern.

I suspect that NK and Russia are sanction issues rather than tariffs. Not sure. Is interesting that there is no mention.

I don't see why each country has to buy the same dollar value from each other. Population should be considered when coming up with tariffs. If A country has ten times the population as B country, how is it possible for B to buy the same amount as A. A is going to consume ten times the amount that B will. So how can it balance. Don't make sense to me.

I buy a lot of stuff from Walmart but they don't buy a thing from me. But I don't feel cheated, I got what I wanted for a fair price, even if they don't buy from me what I have to sell.
