Personally I almost never like 'h' slurs... ("sigh-hide" Clue-who). There's very few times that they seem musical to me, and they don't really work here... Albeit, this is really personal opinion I realize.

The big nit I have about this tune is there's no story... Schadenfreude is bad luck but the only example you have is burning toast. IMO you need to paint the picture better... we need some detailed examples of the bad things that have happened. IE, just telling us that bad things happen around her isn't very compelling... Some broken bones or car wrecks or lost jobs or Grandmothers dying... IMO, that's where you need to go with this lyric.

Sorry.

But like I said, the music on this is A+. The groove and listenability of this is bordering on pro. I love the music a lot.

Peace,

Ian

Hey Ian:

Glad the music worked for you.

I should probably change the "toast" line. I had in mind that "burn the toast" would be generalized as "when you screw up". I guess it probably doesn't work that way though.

I wanted to use "screw the pooch" instead - but couldn't come up with a suitable rhyme with pooch. smile

As for the verse lyrics - sorry they don't work for you but they pretty much came out as I wanted. They provide a lot less detail than I normally would want but that was by conscious design - though that doesn't mean I'm infallible. smile

The idea might be a little pretentious - I had in mind that the listener would know the meaning of the word schadenfreude and would immediately home in on what was going on - thus being in on the game when the singer wasn't. A tough thing to pull off, maybe - and the word isn't common enough that most would catch it. Still, a fun experiment... smile
