This usually applies to lyrics: "It doesn't say anything new", or "I've heard this story before" - I wouldn't mind this if it were true but people critiquing always say they are looking for a fresh concept, but then when you listen to the radio or buy a CD by a big artist - you hear the same old thing.
There will always be songs on CD's about cheating, break ups, etc., and yet some of the people who critique make it sound like no one wants to hear this stuff any more.
