This reminds me of the Fearless Fosdick character in the L'il Abner comic strip. Al Capp really knew how to use a subject. It happened after Eisenhower put Earl Warren on the Supreme Court. I think it was after the Miranda decision came down and you had to be read your rights when you were arrested for a crime. Poor Feerless Fosdick was always in trouble. One time he was charged for getting in front of some crooks gun and interfearing with the path of the bullets. He always had several bullet holes in him. For a look at Fearless Fosdick type Al Capp into a search engine. This case at the "Universty of Oregon" sure rings a bell.

They didn't have this problem in the old west when they caught a horse thief.
