Kevin: ...but I believe the "privacy" issue is this: you have to dig through a lot of innocent people's private records to ferret out the few wrong-doers. Truman: Is this true? Do you KNOW it to be true? I went and read some of the court documents that are part of the extended story. You would have to read those documents yourself and make that determination. In short the University makes the claims that a) laws were broken in obtaining this information, b) that the RIAA goes after those who can't afford to defend themselves as a matter of policy (settlement is cheaper), c) that suspect IP addresses are/can be used by numerous people (you have to do extensive interviews to get down to the possible "culprit"), d) RIAA seeks disclosure of information that is protected by privacy laws....
