I've often thought that the JPF Forum should be a natural resource for young indie artists looking for songs to record. Genre boards could make it easier for artists or producers doing a song search.

Also discussion boards for specific genres could be helpful. As it is, when people want to discuss something concerning a specific genre it is posted under a general heading. The discussion often turns to criticism and defense of the genre itself, and many times the criticism is by folks who are not even active in that genre. That's unfair to people who are trying to share and collaborate. I wonder how many potential ideas have been stifled? Specific genre discussion boards, with a reminder that criticizing or comparing entire genres should be done in general topic boards, may allow folks the freedom to discuss facets of their interests without having to waste their time defending the interest itself.

Perhaps categorized boards might have a sticky thread that helps define each genre and its sub-styles and even provide links to recorded examples. That could help songwriters and artists to expand their musical understanding and appreciation.

You've got to know your limitations. I don't know what your limitations are. I found out what mine were when I was twelve. I found out that there weren't too many limitations, if I did it my way. -Johnny Cash
