I think that Facebook and Twitter may be taking the chit chat away from JPF, but there is little or no song analysis or songwriting advice on FB and Twitter. There is probably a lot of songwriting advice on YouTube however.
JPF's strength IMHO is the analysis of songwriting and the educational aspects of same. A dialog between the songwriters and their peers is terrific and occurs only on songwriting boards like this one. If you want to badmouth a politician however, FB and Twitter are better vehicles. Naturally there are relationships that develop and off-topic discussions can overwhelm the purpose of the boards. Threads on the state of the music industry and the world often have more posts than the song review threads.
I am in favor of trying something new - you can always go back if it doesn't work out.
