I can't argue with anything you've written Marc. But it doesn't address HOW to deal with the threat.

We can't just go in there unilaterally, as much as that might appeal. If we do, were just going to create new enemies. Not because we weren't on the side of right - but because people will propagandize our actions to suit their own agenda, as they have done over and over again in the Middle East. We have to leaders of other countries to buy in. Given the recent responses of Egypt and Jordan, I think we have a real chance here.

Ray talked about how the peace after WWI should have held but a madman came along and riled everyone up. He was able to do this because the German people felt they got a raw deal in the Treaty of Versailles. The consensus seems to be that, in fact, they got a pretty good deal. But the perception among Germans was that they were screwed and Hitler capitalized on this.

This could have been avoided. We are much better at winning wars than we are winning the peace.
