Mike, I wasn't kidding about Jeffrey Steele. Snoop Dogg is more country than Steele.

Steele is a successful commercial songwriter/producer/musician/singer/coach/entrepeneur/jack-of-all-trades. Hell, I'm not knocking the guy. And I'm not saying anything negative about him or his songs.

But he's not a country songwriter. He doesn't write country songs.

Even you admit that today's Nashville sound "is more '80s and '90s pop" than it is old school country.

And that's all I'm saying. Steele ain't country.

Now you and MAB can disagree and tout the Nashville propaganda line that country has evolved into what Steele and Taylor and the other pop singers and writers play. I'll continue to say the bigshots call it 'country' for marketing and branding purposes only and that its sound has no more to do with real country music than hip hop has to do with bluegrass.

Call Steele a great songwriter if you want. I just won't call him country.
