Seems to work better for country music, maybe christian, I have never written a christian song. Not rock or Pop, defintly not blues.

I mean what do you write?

Even if somebody could make that a great blues tune, the lyric itself has little to do with it, it's just following a 12 bar blues pattern that has been done thousands of times.

People will argue and say, "oh, listen to my song, i wrote the lyrics first, it works"

Yeah it works, it would also work if you changed 50% of the lyric, or 75% of it, just because it works out in the final product, doesn't mean that it's a great lyric. great idea, and great stroy maybe, but a great song?

I think the ideal way to write a song is having the melody and lyric come out at the same time. Obviously it will need to be edited, but you are more likely to create an honest vibe if you are singing your song, the emotion of it is there.

A lyric by itself is dead.

But, it can be done, Im sure many hits have been written that way, I just think it;s hard to write a great song in cookie cutter form and structure
