Miranda,

Your "promotional" company may or may not be legit, but there was certainly nothing I saw on those message boards to indicate that you were. Whatever your intentions or thoughts about the music business, by your own admission, you seem to be doing things that are generally considered unscrupulous in this industry.

No, there is not a fee to breathe....nor should there be a fee to be included on a compilation CD. First of all, such compilation CD's have little practical value (if any)in promoting an artists material. There are occasions, such as narrow niche markets, where I've seen a band benefit from being on a compilation CD. These instances are few and far between, though. At any rate, the artist should not be paying to be on such a CD.

"If you were serious about your career you would want the best musician's in the world playing on your songs"...

Living in Nashville, I have access to some of the world's best musicians in any number of studios. Many of these studios will do demos by mail order for someone who doesn't live in Nashville. You pay them for a product and they deliver. No other fees, promises or vaguely defined promotional offers. We're talking apples and oranges when we're talking about studio work and promotions.

I'm glad you don't charge a fee to review press kits, though it's certainly not something to be brag about. No one with any claims of legitimacy would charge money for that. Do you think that publishers, producers or anyone else that receives song submissions says "sure, send that for me to look over and include a check for $50"? No, they don't.

"looks to me like you may even write a little bit"...
Yes, I do even write a little bit and have for some time. So, I'm familiar enough with the music industry to advise anyone to beware of "services" such as yours.

The fact that you claim to be successful in promoting artists, yet are unwilling to cite any examples of your success is in itself a red flag. Believe me, if you drive down Music Row and pass a company that was involved in a successful song...they're not keeping it a secret. They've got banners hanging on the side of the building announcing their involvement with the artist or the project. The only people in this business who aren't willing to discuss their success are the people who haven't had any.
So, whether your business is merely one among many scams, or just a misguided attempt at being involved in the industry....there's nothing you've presented here that would recommend your services to anyone serious about their career.
