Big Jim: I don't think MAB's "insistence" on co-writing has anything to do with the "quality of the song". Quality is a given, a must. Co-writing is all about relationships, getting more folks involved and having more things cooking on the stove. Plus, if the marketplace is almost 100% "writing artist" driven, you HAVE to co-write if you are not the artist.

Having said that, I think co-written songs have a better chance to be great that solo written stuff (non-artist). Why? It helps get the writer out of his own mind and helps see things from different angles. Yea, a solo person can do that -- but co-writing forces it.
