Birthday Bliss

Today would have been her birthday
Had she lived
Now there's no need to celebrate
No card to give

She wanted no funeral
She hated anything to do with God
Hypocrites they all are
A false, superficial facade

She didn't pretend
To be something she was not
She drank and lived hard
No room for tommyrot

Children-well they were things that happened
In a drunken stupor
Fathered by God knows who
Considered just another blooper

Babies kept coming
Eight in all
Born to raise themselves
As mommy's thoughts ran of alcohol

Drunken nights
After the bar closed
Wake up the kids
Where anything goes

Children grew
Escaped at their first chance
Knowing things weren't normal
Feeling like a pissant

Holidays
They turned into a family brawl
Blame running rampant
Free to disenthrall

Finally they just stopped coming
Who needs this?
Dislocate from them all
No sweet family bliss

Then comes the news
That's she's dying
Wants to see you
Some sort of rectifying

Regrets
For not being a better mother
Drink came before
Any other bother

She died in bed
Weighing less than 90 pounds
Forgiveness
Makes the mind sound

So today would have been her birthday
Do you think she would have wanted a drink?
Just one for the road
To celebrate
