If going to war was a solution for our economic woes, we should have the most prosperous economy in history.

Actually, it worked after the "Great Depression" because we had a manufacturing-based economy. The war effort needed our plants to run at full capacity to supply the military. In today's service-based economy, war is just a further drain, as we have already seen.
