My learning experience about reversion clauses happened about 20 years ago. I was writing with some guys, Carbaugh Mann and Tennessee Bob in this case, at Pride Music, Charley Pride's publishing company, which was run by Blake Mevis who produced and wrote some of George Strait's biggest hits. Anyway Carbaugh, T-Bob and I came up with this song, "Hit and Run Lovers" and we demoed it there in Pride's basement and played it for Blake. He wanted to sign it right away (we were working on a "per song" basis). Well, I had heard of reversion clauses over at NSAI and told the other guys I wanted to put one into the contract Pride offered us. They were horrified, so I pursued it with my contract only and Pride, of course, didn't mind changing it to a 3 year reversion clause. Fast forward 3 years, after a pitch to a movie and a couple of artists, Blake left Pride no one else had a connection to the song (if you didn't discover it, you're not the genius) and I got my part of the publishing back. I went down to Pride and prevailed on their sense of pride and of course, ladies and gentlemen they were there, they gave Carbaugh and Tennessee Bob their publishing back. Contracts unsigned are called proposals (gosh I'm not a lawyer, so I'd better not write that ha ha) All the Best, Mike ------------------ You have to practice improvisation. -Art Tatum Mike Dunbar Music
You've got to know your limitations. I don't know what your limitations are. I found out what mine were when I was twelve. I found out that there weren't too many limitations, if I did it my way. -Johnny Cash It's only music. -niteshift Mike Dunbar Music
