I think one of the points thats missing here is...Marc is saying the best chance of getting in the door is thru a positive song...
not that negative songs don't get picked to go on an album.
There is no dispute that protest/negative/sad songs have their own place.
Marcs point is to get attention in Nashville you need positive songs....negative songs should be held for after you have someones true attention.
That is assuming you want to get into Nashville in the first place....IMO it is not the centre of the universe and solely responsible for trends and tastes in music. There are other genres and other places to play and pitch songs to. That is also assuming you WANT to try and sell your songs in the first place.
