I ask the question is not paying attention to negativity and what goes on around you hiding your head in the sand?
For years songwriters have drawn peoples attention to the bad things and through them positive things have happened. Vietnam was a classic example. Were it not for the protest songs it might still be going on. To say you have not been moved by negative songs and could not care less is IMO throwing away a glorious opportunity to express feelings and make change to peoples lives. Is that not what songwriting is all about.
If you are happy writing about love gone wrong, God is good and happy days living on a farm...then OK.... BUT THERE IS MORE TO LIFE THAN THAT.
Perhaps one of the reasons why country music and Nashville does little for ME is exactly this attitude.
