Ray do not talk about pay rises when the bankers voted themselves billions in bonuses for bringing the whole banking system into ruin resulting in the countries you mention going to the dogs.
And re the government cannot afford to pay pensions, health care etc......we could pay that several times over without a tax raise if the multi millionaire scroungers who owe billions in tax avoidance and evasion were brought to justice.
Just for the record those people who took to the streets were protesting because they were being denied their rights and were not going to get the pension plan they are due and had contributed to for many decades through the government pension plan. Nothing to do with government handouts.
If you took out an insurance policy or pension plan and the company reneged then you also might protest I would imagine.
But I forget under your system only the rich have any rights.
