so maybe we should all take a huge cut in pay and conditions and bring opurselves down to their level just to keep our own economy going?....it will never happen.....
And...
the only way is for workers in those deprived countries to fight through unions and industrial action to bring their standards up to ours...so we are all on a level playing field.... I think Colin's analysis is dead-on accurate, Big Jim. In fact, the first point of yours I quoated above IS happening right now - in the U.S. anyway. I actually think the second point of yours I quoted will happen as well. People are people...... As a result, in the shorter term, we will do a bit worse and underdeveloped countries will do a bit better - until we meet in the middle. Eventually, everyone will begin doing better - but not in our lifetimes - and not even our grandchildren's. Globalization was a real Pandora's box - I'm afraid it can't be shut now. Young folks have to be made aware that they are not competing against their classmates - they are competing against that kid in Asia who does three hours of homework every night. It makes me sad to say that - as I don't think of myself as a pessimist. But we aren't doing them any favors by not telling them the truth. Scott
