I would like some evidence that lyrics are unimportant in popular music or older music. Has anyone done a study to determine which came first, melody or lyric?
Of the top songs done for the last 100 years which were done lyrics first which were melody first?
Amazing Grace is a typical example. Without the Lyric would the melody exist?
It is my belief that melody is determined by the lyrics.
Having said that I wish I knew how to write better melodies to my own songs. We should have a forum on that.
