I found that Denver certainly had that down pat. He could right simple well thought out lyrics that did "make one feel good." That is mostly what I strive for as a writer and singer.

Another song, in a different vain, that I have always admired is Jan Arden's "Insensative" If you know it then you know what I mean. She captures all the emotions in that one. (If you don't the google it. She is worth it.)
