One of the things I like about Taylor Swift is her use of pauses and spaces in some of her melodies. For example, Hey Stephen, on her new cd Teardrops on My Guitar from her first cd. In each song, she draws out and spaces in the first lines to set the melody and anchor the songs. It is also interesting how she uses / or does not use / rhymes. She depends a lot on phrasing rather than on strict rhymes.
