I have probably attended about a dozen NSAI pitch to publisher nights in Nashville. Every one of those nights had 60 or 70 wannabes there pitching a song.
Every one of those wannabes, including me, thought they had the next big hit, including me. (or at least a song worth a second listen)
I never heard a hit until I was there the night I heard "She Wouldn't Be Gone" Cut by Blake Shelton.
I knew it was a hit soon as I heard the first verse. So did the publisher.
That was also when I realized I didn't have a hit to pitch.
I had heard hundreds of songs before I heard that one.
Of course I did not know for sure that night. I did not know until I heard it on the radio a few months later.

Damn I wish I wrote that one.
