Yet we do not have a melody forum. Why is that?

Is it because melodies are so easy? or the opposite? Too hard to discuss.

I would really like to understand why melody is so important and more importantly why it is so hard. What does melody do for a song. I hear words like tension and release and really don't understand the concepts.
If there are only twelve notes how can there be so many variations.
Well I got to thinking on that. Is it a Mathematics issue?
It seems there are a LOT of possible combinations.
Twelve notes using each note only once I think gives you ?????? 479001600 possible melodies,

And that's if you only use each note once and only sing twelve notes.
If you do a 24 note riff it would be??????????

Then you add in the Octaves. You can sing a middle C then go up an Octave to Cand then Drop back two Octaves to C.
OMG I am getting a headache just thinking about it.
How will I ever figure out how to use them.
