You are talking about the US as if it possessed cultural cohesion. Without cultural cohesion, things dont fix. The slide can be slowed sometimes. It glosses over for a while as the result of wars where there is an eminent threat to all...but it doesn't really ever go into reverse successfully.
When a room of ten citizens each talk about "my people" and none of them mean everyone in the room...but some faction that represents their personal attributes...the outlook is gloomy.

It has not come down to a meeting of minds. It is now a matter of who prevails on what issue(s) and in what manner.
Sorry Marty, but I still believe in the wisdom of our forefathers. They wrote this nation's declaration of independence, constitution, and bill of rights to unite people against slavery, and the very same tyranny we are threatened by today. Just because that struggle never ends doesn't mean there's no value in the fight. smile
