Brandon Moved Away By Judy Domeny Bowen Copyright 1999
Tommy raced in with a shout, "Mrs. Bowen!" he called out, "Did you know Brandon moved away?" Tommy ran off to his seat as my heart fell to my feet Because Brandon moved away. It wasn't that I'd miss him, oh, no quite the opposite, He was trouble every minute of the day. But as hard as he would fight me I would try that hard and more, Now I don't know where he is and I just pray
Chorus Brandon, wherever you are I hope you're warm and safe as you can be, I pray someone will have heart enough To see that you are not so tough As you would like the world to believe, I wish you love within a family.
"Teacher," asked young Tommy, "did he get to say good-bye Before Brandon moved away? Did you know he's got a new school and a brand new family, Though he don't know how long with them he'll stay. Hey look--he left his schoolbox in his desk, do you suppose That I could have it? There's not very much inside. Just a few old broken crayons and a Valentine from you...." And with that I couldn't help but start to cry
Chorus
I turned to see his drawing on the wall behind my desk, A tiny person, scribbled out in black. Just a kindergarten kid with no one to call his own, It hurts that Brandon won't be back. Abandoned by his mother when the boy was only two, Where his father is we simply do not know. Moving 'round in foster care, throwing tantrums, throwing chairs, Lord, I wonder where in life that boy will go
Chorus
Brandon, you'll always be loved by me.
