A THOUSAND SAD SONGS Copyright 1996 - Francie Wolff
CHORUS: THERE ARE A THOUSAND SAD SONGS IN NASHVILLE NO AUDIENCE WILL EVER HEAR THEY'RE ALL DOWN AT THE PAWN SHOP AND THEY'RE SUNG BY THE OLD AUCTIONEER
He gives each item its number He knows what price it will bring But if he could tell you their stories This is what he would sing......
Verse 1: See that fancy sequined outfit That was going to be the dress Of a country music singer Who never found success.
Verse 2: In the case right by the window Sets a golden wedding ring Worn by a man who left his wife 'Cause she wouldn't let him sing.
Verse 3: On the hook against the back wall Hangs a shiney red guitar Of a man who just played back-up While he dreamed HE was the star.
CHORUS: THERE ARE A THOUSAND SAD SONGS IN NASHVILLE NO AUDIENCE WILL EVER HEAR AND THEY'RE ALL DOWN AT THE PAWN SHOP THEY'RE SUNG BY THE OLD AUCTIONEER
Verse 4: There's a special on a drum set That's in excellent condition It was played just one time For a country show audition
Verse 5: A member of a famous band Once owned that saxaphone But now that band has broken up And that man has gone back home
Verse 6: TALKING VERSE(melody in background) See that typewriter sitting on that table Well, it's worth maybe just a little bit It was owned by a girl who wrote a song That never became a hit (talking aside: I think it was called, "Sad Songs in Nashville", or something like that)
CHORUS: THERE ARE A THOUSAND SAD SONGS IN NASHVILLE NO AUDIENCE WILL EVER HEAR AND THEY'RE ALL DOWN AT THE PAWN SHOP THEY'RE SUNG BY THE OLD AUCTIONEER
Each one of those thousand sad songs Is a story that's untold The hope for fame and fortune All dreams that have been sold
TALKING END: Who will give me five dollars For that rhinestone-studed cowboy hat? Going once Going twice Sold! To the highest bidder! SINGING END single refrain) ALL DREAMS THAT HAVE BEEN SOLD!
