I never met a line that was capable of standing on its own. In my opinion, if a line could stand on its own, you wouldn't need the other lines--and you wouldn't have lyrics.

That said, I abhor useless lines. Every line has got to *contribute* to the whole, or it's going to find itself out of a job.
