PS.....Paul McCartney and John Lennon were very conservative song writers.....
They didn't break many rules at al...ever...
Even their "experimental" works pale in comparison to modern classical composers..

The real groundbreaking stuff was in the area of recording and production, not song construction.

that's my opinion, of course, but one that is shared by many.

Back in the 60's and 70's when alot of us had to learn those songs to play on stage, we were learningthat the Beatles were employing a clever combination of tried and true pop music formulas..alot of stuff that we had seen and heard before.
The difference was that those guys were so consistently good at it !
