David - You are absolutely right, my friend! 50 degrees and it's only March! The snow is fading fast and since equinox on the 21st, we have more daylight the the rest of Western Hemisphere! There's nothing so mind altering as Alaskan Spring Fever. Ain't it grand..

Hmm..there's a song in there somewhere. Anyway - In a sense, although I was having fun with it, I *was* being serious with my Seuss-like rhyme of lines. For a line to stand on it's own, it metaphorically is like a human being and possesses the same qualities if it is to stand out from the crowd of lame lines. You talked about the zen of it (or guildslinger did), and it's right there.

I agree in that your example would stand on its own, but also that it is the catchiness of it that makes it as well. Not all lines must be so catchy to stand on thier own.

What we are all dicussing and trying to define is a very relative thing, as Bob points out.

So, in summary - I was serious and having fun at the same time.
