Hi All

I'm considering posting this on the Lyrics forum - but wanted to check just how many good on-line friends I'm about to loose! Lol!

I've been an artist and musician all my life! Good songs are about an interplay between words and music. Nothing more! Universal themes, accessible themes, good storytelling, pre - chorus, hooks etc etc., are observations after the fact. Jargon! Little more! There is no science to writing songs! If there was, scientists would have created a machine to replace it years ago! Song-writing is art not a science or a philosophy or a state of positive life experience! Poetical narratives in the form of lyrics may be therapy (and very good therapy) but not song writing!

My advice to pure lyrics is to learn three major and two minor chords of the same key on any instrument, guitar or keys or whatever.

Lyrics aren't poetry! Poetic lyrics have a structured meteor - song lyrics don't or at least don't necessarily. Song lyrics match the meter of the music NOT the meter of the lyrics!

ONLY classical musical ever attempted to match both and most modern efforts have proved staid and stencil.

So lyricists learn to play! God knows you'll never find a group of people more anxious to teach and help you - than here!

So - what do you guys think? Post on Lyrics Forum or leave it?

All advice welcome!
