You have to keep in mind American Idol is a CONTEST. All contests are the same. There is short term interest, in this case almost rabid interest. It is huge during the veiwing season, then a short period, around 3-6 months afterward, then it is OVER. Most people's attention span don't allow them to even last that long.
Over the ten years, how many have achieved any tangible success? Probably less than a per cent. Which is actually very much like the music industry.
So enjoy the show while you can. There is always another one on the way.
