I was baffled that Casey was at the very bottom of the bottom three. But I think I know what happened. He is clearly the most unique of all the AI contestants; but his type of singer doesn't really have a large fan base, like say Scottie or Lauren who connect with Country fans, or like Lusk who connects with the Rap, Rhythm an Blues and Hip Hop fans; or just the African American community in general. James Durbin gets his fan base from the Rock and Roll concert group, with a few screaming groupies thrown in.

So when Casey turns in a weird version of a great song (Heard it through the Grapevine) he is in trouble. Had he just sang it like it was recorded, he would have been fine. The AI voters are only voting FOR someone, not against someone. So that's what happened- he was ignored. He is not the handsome heart-throb so he really has no identifiable fan base, thus no chance to win it all even if he is the best most complete musician in the contest.

Casey's reaction when Randy stopped his "sing for your live" performance was a first in AL drama. He almost passed out. He went from total humiliation (thinking that the judges hated his performance) to stunned gratitude when he realized that the judges only stopped him because they had already decided he was saved. I thought the AI producers were cruel to scrip that little piece of drama. What if he had a heart condition? Didn't they consider that had been hospitalized recently? The producers also created a little false crisis for James Durbin and McDonald when they were told that neither were "safe". Then they bring on Hulk Hogan who pretends to menace them. Ha Ha, very funny- let's traumatize the kid with Tourette syndrome.

It was the right decision to save Casey because this group goes on tour and it would be a mistake to leave such a unique talent out of that gig.
